Very well written... I know that Board of Education well. (unfortunately)
Sounds like you might have been a handful! Myself, I wasn't, but dad liked to use it anyway. lol
I love the easy cadence of your country lyrics... I can feel the country boy shine right on through

One of my favorites (so far). As a child, I met with the board of education quite frequently! It made me a better person. Sometimes, I think I still need it. I am quite bull-headed and tend to repeat the same mistake over and over to make sure I learn it, lol. Very well written with just enough humor to make me smile but also sincerity to evoke emotions of gratitude for my own father and much of my upbringing. God bless :)

Thank you for your comments and support. The Board of Education and I were very close personal friends indeed and it meant more to me because of the Dad who was teaching me that I absolutely adore to this very day.

This is a nice song and you should put music to it. I enjoyed the read and am sure this excellent work will do well as a song The chorus is also well placed within the work.
Great job.

This is nice and a lot of people can look back and think about the board of education days.

I like the repeated lines, they get the message to the person.
It also rhymes well and very much family orientated.

Good luck with your poem.

A good poem but your inconsistent in rhyme in three repeated stanzas ("me/learning"). The rest of your rhyming is excellent as is the story of your youth. Talk to the board of education.

Yea, I kind of took some liberties with that situation. Thanks for your comments. Appreciate them very much.

Board of Wisdom to the Seat of knowledge was the way our teacher explained it. Been there, done that. This is very well written with a touch of humor.

Oh My! This topic and sentiment are difficult for me to relate to. It's sad, makes me feel so bad. Suppose the rhyme and rhythm are there but what you need is a hug and an I'm proud of you. Everyone has had a ticket or two.

Thanks for your comments but I got exactly what I needed growing up from a Dad who I treasure to this very day. Appreciate your comments though.

I loved this poem... or song? It read like a Country song that I could easily imagine Kenny Rogers or Garth Brooks singing the lyrics. (I think I had the same kind of dad you did, though I rarely crossed him, so we grew up slightly differently.) Your rhymes and meter both contribute to the song-like quality of this and make it a fun poem to read. It had a touch of sadness, but the ending chorus lightened the mood perfectly. Great job. Now give it some music and send off a demo. ;p

Mom and dad are the persons trying, caring, loving, educating you so that you can stand upright when you are a man or woman. Memories of dad and you, memories of mom and you remain all along. You remember the stories when awake or in sleep. This is the best part of your life.
