In my opinion, Van Gogh was perhaps the greatest painter who ever lived. His canvasses are alive as you note, from his unwavering dedication to the bold stroke. Is that really an original? It must be worth a lot.

    Thank you ravenblack, it's probably a copy. But was purchased in an art store.

His paintings are worth a fortune my friend and I loved starry eyes the song. I also loved matchstick men and match stick cats and dogs, but I think that's another painter lol. Thank you for sharing.

Nicely put,my friend. Indeed one of the greatest though racked with madness, so often found in geniuses. We must all have a little madness in us.
Well done,
RG

How fortunate you are to own an actual Van Gogh--the closest I got was to copy one of his paintings 30 years ago! Thank you for sharing your photo of the painting and your tribute sonnet in rhymed couplets. Your poem tells the whole story of how a genius lived to only 37 but influenced the art world immensely. Cheers- Joan

Hi, Treischel
"Van Gogh" is an excellent poem in sonnet form which is followed perfectly with superior rhyming. I resonate to its rhythm. Good work.

Hi there, Tom

Oh what a wonderful tribute to one of our greatest painters of all time.

The aesthetics of his work is so fluid and filled with life.

Such a terrible shame that this incredible visionary was born to die so very young. Such a tragic end to what should have been a most glorious stamp on the world of art whilst he was alive.

A great write, Tom, although to be picky, I would have considered writing the sonnet out in equal syllables of 10 each line and and spaced to adhere to the three stanza and one couplet form. But hey, it is truly lovely.

Kind regards

tracey :)

    Thank you Tracey. I went with the old world version of the sonnet. Probably got a bit lazy on the meter

I've often wished that I could paint--you are your own boss, set your own hours, and displays brilliant, breath-taking artwork for the entire world to see--sounds like a good living;
Well-penned ode to a painter's contribution to the art world, while being remembered by many;
Unfortunate he passed away in this thirties;
Very intriguing and a great historical writing, Tom--thank you for sharing. No doubt, one of your proud and prized possessions.
A very pretty painting, he was a talented man indeed.

A truly great artist who died too young. You captured his genius in this well rhymed and well thought out poem. To own even a small piece of that genius, I'm sure is overwhelming. Well done, Tom.

Hi there,

This is a great tribute to the talented genius of Van Gogh.

Shame he wasn't more respected in his own life time.

A well written poem with good strong rhyming.

Nicely done.
