The horror of it all. The mass beheadings. The cage burnings. The girl suicide bombers. Where will it all end? Neither my poem nor I have any answers.

    Thank you for your review.

Our poet knows how to use his images with an uncanny sense. A drama unfolds and in light of this, the final words are a bit of a come-down. Your images, beautiful as they are, might just be a bit obscure. Just a thought! -Ekim777

I do not know why, honey tree. My poem and the actions of these individuals are riddles. Thank you for your review.

Sis Cat; Very powerful, poignant and compelling 5/7/5 syllabic format that uses some great imagination to be very inventive and ingeniously creative. The resourcefulness of your writing is sadly clever. The imagery is very demonstratively descriptive as well as exquisitely expressive in a very exquisite type of way. Thank you for your authors notes it was helpful in understanding your writing even though your writing is quite self-sufficient to understand. Near and notable alliteration in
"shadows across sand". Thank you for sharing and posting and may the Lord be with you.

Your haiku does indeed say much in few words and I agree with the comment about removing the person from the scene.

Your last line reflects the horror that is felt across the globe as we contemplate such horrific acts.

Excellent poem and a strong statement indeed. I appreciate the notes, it always helps to clarify the interpretation. You wrote a heartfelt piece and in doing so honored the victims. Your title was intriguing.

The image is well created in haiku form. Thanks for this reminder of the human propensity to be beastly and for the reflection that our beastly nature can rise to poetic beauty from the ashes of the fire. Tangerine reminds me of fire and the spider reminds me of coal, fuel for fire.

Thank you for your kind review. I do not know when humanity's propensity to be beastly will stop. I am shocked that such a beautiful poem can capture the horror.

Chills living rooms- the perfect closure. I would suggest dropping the "and" and making the line " chilling living rooms", but as a whole, the haiku is quite powerful. I know by orange robes you mean the hostages that those evil bastards are beheading, but I also could not help but think of saffron bhuddist robes, the killing of peace. Which is a good thing for the poem.

Thank you, ravenblack, for your kind review. I agonized about how to describe the garments the executed wore. In some of the earlier videos they wore the traditional Middle Eastern prison garment, an orange robe. I debated calling it saffron robe but did not want to confuse people with Buddhists. I debated using orange jumpsuit, but that was too Western. Just as my poem posted I saw on the news the twenty-one Coptic Christians in orange jumpsuits paraded onto the beach before their mass beheading. This was like seeing my poem modernized and come to life. Thanks for the review.

Yes, every report makes my blood run cold. I like how you drag the reader from the sands of the Middle East right into their own living room. I say "drag" because it's an event none of us wants to think about, much less witness...

Thank you, flamingstar, for your kind review. I am glad we do not show the entire execution on TV in America, and we should not. No one wants to think about it nor witness it, but it is happening over there.
