Thank you for sharing your social commentary and speaking out against the recent atrocities. My heart goes out to all police officers as I travel. I admired your rhymes that added intensity to your message. Here's to peace and cooperation- Joan

Hi Marilyn

A poignant poem and a common tragedy. Bad enough, their job is dangerous and they do it to protect us without an intentional execution. I'm often surprised how teens and twenty somethings seem to have such disregard and disrespect for the law enforcement officers. I can understand at corruption within the forces, and some of them are bullies and deal too severely with some criminals. One never knows shat they will face in pursuit of crime. The stress must be incredible.

A strong voice in your poem. To the point and without excess, you convey a full hearted message to create awareness. I've found your notes significant and I think the "Sea of Blue Ribbon Campaign" sounds an excellent community venture, I hope it is well supported.

Police officers and paramedics are in total risk and some streets they cannot go into here in Australia. Even those they are trying to help act with violence, usually drink or drug related. The service of these men and women is invaluable ...I find it incredible parents fail to teach their children to respect and consider them. They aren't very well paid either, for risking their lives.

A great poem ... I hope your message reaches out. Warmest greetings to you and your loved ones for a wondrous Christmas season and a Happy New Year. A nice gift would be to have crime reduced over the holidays. Hugs - Lovi xoxo

Hi Lovinia (Lovi). (The name of a character in a story I wrote years ago--although I spelled her name as Lovey. Maybe I'll resurrect that story and you'll be able to read it on FS.)

I so enjoyed your nice note. When I was flying for Pan American Airlines in the 60's, I was in Australia and enjoyed it so much. The people there are friendly and accepting. I met some of them at a party and the next day they picked me up and took me all over.

I lived on Long Island, New York for many years and my husband is a New Yorker. We were in "the city" often, taking advantage of all the marvels "The Big Apple" has to offer. It is a wonderful place. It saddens me to see the hatred that is so prevalent nowadays. Sadly our leaders from Obama on down are separators, not unifiers. He must remember he is the president of all Americans, not just those of his party. It's my belief that race is way overblown and all of us long for unity. We have to pull together to get out of this mess.

I appreciate your fine review and comments and wish you a wonderful Christmas.

Thank you for this tribute to the officers. It is so sad! I don't understand why they did not catch the post on facebook and try to stop it from happening. Well written.

Thank you Mel. I appreciate your comments and review. My girlfriend's son is a police officer in the Los Angeles area and they take their lives in their hands every day. Having lived in NY, those officers are truly New York's Finest. I wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas.

Hi, Bea,

It is so sad how the country has lost respect for the very people we call when we need help. Don't understand it all. To me, there is no excuse to bite the hand that may save your life someday.

Nicely penned and presented.

*Season's Greetings*

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'... Jax (*:*)

You're on the wrong side of this argument for me. But you have a right to your opinion, even if I happen to disagree with it. I won't go into it here. Because I can see you have a stance that you are adamant about. But still, this is well written and deserves a five star rating... John

Ps... No one in their right mind wanted to see two police officers get killed. But sadly there are people out there that don't care who they kill or for what reasons...

Heck no, it's not what I want at all, Marilyn. These sorts of crimes are what cause police officers to shoot first and ask questions later. And when crimes such as this occur, who are we to blame them, really? They're just out there putting their lives on the line for us all, day-in, and day-out. They too have families they wish to return home to.

Well said...

Thank you, Dean, for your comments and support. My best girlfriend's son is a police officer. There is a movement on Facebook called "Sea of Blue Ribbon Campaign" where from now until December 31 people are asked to put a big blue bow somewhere on the front of their house to show support for the police. Mayor DiBlasio, Obama, Holder, as well as Sharpton must stop fanning the flames of anarchy.

I agree, Marilyn. The mainstream media is at fault here, too.

You're very welcome, my friend. :)

Excellent poem. Appropriate title. The flow was smooth. The words you chose certainly got to the point of the poem. Rhyme was good. The ending was strong.

Murder is never the answer for an injustice that was done, and the race baiters are really hurting the cause of justice when they incite violence The message of this poem is right on point.
