You did a good job of writing in the western genre. I have read his work and admire it. I like how you told the story in somewhat of a ballad format. It worked well. Very detailed description of the gunfight...one could picture I in one's mind.

Thank you, Jane, and this one was a bit of a stretch for me. I wrote it for Charlie Lucas, one of his stories inspired it. He's our own answer to Louis L'Amour, heh-heh...

    Happy New Year! :)

Hi Dean, I think this is a terrific story poem. Where and how did you find the art work did you do it yourself? It really seems to fit in well with the poem. I wrote review replies for the poem you reviewed. But I think instead of saving, I erased them some how, because they don't seem to be registered at all. It indicates I have made no replies but I did. It also says that I received 13 reviews but I have only seen three out of that No. I'll thank you here for the review. I appreciate it. K River

You know, Dean, as I read along, I thought that Charlie might enjoy this western story poem. Then I read your notes, and saw that you dedicated it to him.
By any chance, is this a true tale? We have a ghost in the backlands of Grand Bay. A blind man named Tissdale used to live out there with his sister. Early settlers of the town, he was blind and she used to take him for a walk every night along the road. He'd hold the lantern for her, while she held his arm. After they died, people began seeing the glow of a lantern along the road. Spooky!
Great story! Joe and Randy both wanted Marion Lear, but she was a one-man woman.
Nicely penned! Thanks for sharing.
Christmas Cheer,
Kimbob

You sir are a genius. This is a classic western tale. And told so wonderfully well in poetic form.

Your rhyme and meter is superb and the story rolls along with great pace. This is a true masterpiece

Great job, Dean, with your story poem with a wild west theme. You definitely did Charlie right by this tribute. Both of you great writers! I liked the end rhymes as well as the inner rhyming that made it flow smoothly from top to bottom. 8)

This was a gem from start to finish. Have you ever lived in the desert? I have and you expressed it perfectly, i.e., "The tumbleweed steamed while the hot sun beamed," and "sun beat down on arid ground, as the desert winds whistled and howled." Many good lines, particularly like: "Mandy Chan - from the Mongol Clan - was a' singin' a mournful tune." "Silence was thick, nails chewed to the quick..." An interesting and entertaining read. Doesn't skip a beat.

Hello Dean,
This was a sad tale of the old west, but life was tough in them thar' days. Lol. I really enjoyed the read. Honestly, it took me a moment to get the cadence, but once it set in, it read beautifully. I was mesmerized until the fateful ending.
I was impressed with the work you must have put into this splendid story...might have been a winning entry into a "story-in-a-poem."
Great job here, my friend...it was a pleasure!
Happy Holidays to you and your family, Bill

Ya know, I did enjoy this one - ample blood spilled, adultery, probably card cheating I missed, at least four of the seven deadly sins and the one illustration seems to tip its hat to an episode of Grindhouse! All in all - an excellent read.

The photo of her at the bar makes one think twice about crossing her path. Different wheelhouse for you, but well done! Jean
