Sad but beautiful. It must be very hard for a loving parent to watch their child die. On one hand you don't want to let them go while on the other you know they will be free of pain and suffering. A dreadful place to be. Sincerely Anne.

Thank you so very much for this lovely review, my friend. I couldn't remember how long ago I wrote this ... 2 years ago. I had a look at the reviews, and I don't know if you are the same person who spelt her name MaBaker, with a capital B, but if you are,
you had already given this a review. :) How strange is that! Nice though, that you liked it twice!!! lol. Thanks again. :) Sandra xx

I never heard of anyone being born with one kidney. however It was beautiful that God allowed his daughter to see her mother and know she was joining her. God is a good God. He put his daughter mind at rest, so she could enjoy her Christmas before she died. Yes it was a beautiful Christmas for her, and him. Sure he miss her, but time heals all wounds. Beautiful story

Thank you so very much for your lovely review and for the 6 stars! I am delighted you enjoyed it, even though it was sad.
My uncle was born with only one kidney, and a few years ago, when he was in his early 70s, his one kidney began to fail, we thought we were going to lose him, but God was watching over him and now almost 80, he is still going strong. :) I do wish you a very happy and healthy 2016, my friend! xsx Sandra

I hope you won first prize. It was a lovely story. I had one along the same lines about my eldest son, a hospital and Christmas Day. Sadness should be banned from Christmas, just happiness. Of course I dream. No typo. Regards Mabaker

Thank you so much for your lovely review, MaBaker, it didn't win, didn't even come close! Mine never do. I wrote that story after my uncle had been rushed into hospital with kidney failure. He only had one kidney, the other one was removed when he was about 5 years old, so we didn't expect him to live. He was in a coma for about 10 weeks, and he actually survived and is still living ten years later! He is now in his late 70s. I wrote my story in a realistic way, because so many do die, we all hear of the ones who survive, but there are many parents out there who have to suffer the pain of watching their beloved child die, this one was for them. Thank you again, my friend. xsx Sandra

I read your story, it was really sad and emotionally charged. You were right to say that these days you could have sued that doctor and got him struck off the medical register.

good dialogue and character development
you set the stage dramatically and pace the intro well as we learn what it is that has stolen this man's smile
touching back story
the doctor's turn to nod - add apostrophe for possessive
a tear-inducing and beautifully moving closing
lovely for the Christmas contest :-) Brooke

The tremendous love between Monica and her father could have written around any holiday but choosing Christmas heightens the theme of love, hope and life ever after.

You could have taken the expected way out of this story and found a kidney, but you kept it in the realms of reality. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, but how those people react to it is important. What a wonderful story to give. I do hope this story wins. It has the meaning of Christmas stamped all over it.

This is beautifully written, Sandra. I was waiting for a predictable 'happy' ending with a kidney being found, so was glad to see you made it real. So many people must be waiting for Christmas with a similar dread. You made it the best Christmas ever, for very different reasons. Well done, and good luck in the competition. I'm sure you'll do really well! Alexis xxx

I am sure they are, too, Alexis, it is really hard for people on transplant lists. The worst of it is, to get one, someone else generally has to die. Thank you so much for this really lovely review, and I am so pleased you were happy with the way I ended it. Big thank you, too, for the lovely 6 stars!! :) Sandra

Oh, Sandra, you really know how to grab a reader's emotions. This story is simply exquisite -- it has so much to it and is written so well. I wish I could find the right words, but I'm rushing to catch up. Hugs, Lou

This was a beautiful Christmas story. Such love between a father and a daughter. The story touched my heart and even a few tears welled in my eyes. But it was also a story about faith and trust in God. I think this story will be ranked among the top in the contest favorites. Thank you for reminding us that not only Christmas Day, but everyday is about love.

Wow, what a compelling story, expertly told with effect use of flashback and realistic characterizations of the characters. Very endearing. I had tears in my eyes as i continued to read. The tragic circumstances, the anger with God, the loving relationships, the courage, all were very moving, Excellent story perfectly penned.

Did you mean to write a "slushy" romance story, or did you really mean "mushy"?

I am really mad at you, Sandra. This is my last read of the night and you've torn my heart out.

(Just kidding about the "mad at you" part, of course, but man-oh-man, not about the rest!!! I seriously want to find something to cheer me up before I go to bed now. Lady, can you ever write!)
