I like your instructive contrasts between rhythms- the martial beat and the waltz. And of course all who choose to March to the beat of a different drummer.

Thank you ravenblack, even though the boogaloo is more your style. Lol.

Thank you for demonstrating the beats of these meters. I enjoyed your marching, shuffling and waltzing descriptions, plus your fun rhymes. Cheers- Joan

You are one of the masters of poetry on this site and I agree with your observations of the two different types of poetry. I write poetry from the gut, I'm a complete amateur so it is nice to learn from you. Well done, Tom.

What a good idea for a poem, Tom, and I have to say, I much prefer the beat of the Anaoestic, (being a fan of the waltz!) I loved how it moved along. But, I do write a lot in the Iambic style, but will try to do more in the Anaoestic. I loved that one. :) Sandra xsx

Well if this isn't just a dandy way to explain a couple of writing techniques. Nice to know that not only do I get entertained by an outstanding writer but I am learning something new at the same time. Thank you Mr T

This is a clever and demonstrative explanation of two of the rhythmic choices available to poets. I'm quite certain that a lot of pretty good poetry is produced without any such recognition by the writer. However, here it is, for all who are interested. Good work.
