This is a really interesting story. I would like to read the rest of it. It rhymes well and follows the prompt well. I like the picture you chose to go with it, but it is well written and capable of standing alone without a picture.

This is a history your wife can be proud of. Joseph risked his life for a cause. He marched not only for his children and wife. He marched for the welfare of all the woman and children that were suffering. I am sure things turned to the better for them. I am eager to read the story. Great work.

It is indeed a classic ballad, The rhyming is smooth and doesn't interfere with the cadence. It needs to be sung around a campfire or in a pub. Whatever the case, in its down to earth way, it spreads its historic message and the genealogy adds to the magic. -Ekim777

yes indeed, a ballad needs to be sung - does this one deserve a Yorkshire accent do you think or an aussie bushman's drawl?

This is the best poem I have read on here for ages, I am a great lover of story's in poems, I also live in a carpet town in Kidderminster, Worcestershire so I know all about the rich owners and the poor weavers, thanks for making my day dear friend.

Eric, thanks for the exceedingly kind words. Watch out for Part 2 where Joseph's fortunes take a turn in egalitarian Australia!

That was wonderful and I so admire the stories told in rhyme as they seem exceptionally difficult to me. You told it in great detail and made it educational too. Great job.

The monumental difference between the classes at that time is amazing. The lower classes really had no rights and could be jailed or transported to a penal colony for even minor crimes. This is an interesting story about one of those people who did not have enough status to be treated fairly.

    Thank you.

perhaps the surprising thing here is that this was actually a very serious crime, an armed uprising, no less, and yet he escaped with his life.

Dear Writer,

A gripping tale told with superb rhyme and flow. Poor man he will be sent to far Tasmanian's shore. Escape the hang man's noose and rise to meet the new dawn.

Good luck in the contest. A very fine entry.

Warm regards,

Winslow

I think it would be great to continue this ballad. I love the story of Firth so far. It seems that history replays itself and it is well that we heed these stories. Some can write ballads while others cannot. This one is well written. Good luck in the contest.
