Both my son and his wife are professional photographers and some of their best work is with back lighting. it is an are and fantastic effects are possible.

Oh I agree, for sure. back lighting can be used for some great affects. The photo I put o there was by accident but it didn't look too bad considering it was done with an old box brownie and I have worked on it a bit since as it was converted from a print to a slide then on to the puter. Thanks for coming by.

this is an excellent essay, sankey, about the way the light has to be right or the subject of the photograph cannot be seen. I enjoyed reading it. poor kitty, washed of his color.

I happen to think it's a very interesting photo. Cats are mysterious creatures that the error in photography adds to that mystic. Thank you for sharing and it is a very important message you have shared with us.

Hi friend thanks looking forward to reading some more of your stuff soon. I am about to put out my whole autobiography for another review with rewards soon. I have nearly finished going through and putting stuff nearer the times they happened. Also marking the chapters for where I have then on Word for my own direction.

Short but sweet. This actually helped me to think about some of the photos I have taken recently. I kept holding things up to the light and take pictures of them, but now I will do it away from the light to let it shine upon the object, thanks.

Glad you liked as long as the light is on the subject and not behind it unless you are looking for some special effect you should be ok.

I kept trying to get the extra glare off some pictures but putting things directly in front of the light made it worse. When I changed it up and moved the objects to a different area then it worked better.

Wow! This is excellent advice, but it's lost on me because I stopped taking pictures when film went the way of the buggy whip. I don't own a camera anymore, or a smart phone either. I do have a dumb phone which is plugged into the wall, but so far as I'm aware that can't act as a camera. I'm afraid that technology has passed me by.

Sankey, you have successfully explained the dilemma of many who do not know about the importance of light in photography. I still like the photo, though. Makes it feel old fashioned like an old memory. Well done. :0 GracieAnn

oh it is an olllld memory back when B/W photography was cheaper than colour hehe. I think the photo was worse before I played with it a while ago too. Read about Pinny in my book somewhere. There was a Pinny II too hehe! Only thing was the second one was almost pedigree persian with the lovely fluffy tail. He was rejected by the Queen some sort of runt in the litter for some reason.They are all in my book ha. Thanks again.

This is true and I've ruined many memory shots by not taking not of that. However, On a few occasions I've gotten some cool silhouette shots of trees and things.
I've had some interesting pics with light from the side.
I've noticed that sometime, when taking a person picture with light behind me , it causes a nose shadow on their upper lip, giving not only a squinted eye but an elongated nose. lol

Hehe yeah maybe that is why as someone reminded me have the light over your left shoulder or something. There are some good effects with light behind subject some times as well.

This is still such a sweet kitty picture. If it's an old one, that probably added to the washed out effect. I love the pose of the cat in this. Good advice about having light being behind the photographer. Sometimes people give too much information at one time. By focusing on just this one important aspect, your thought comes across very clearly. judi

Thanks Sis good hearing from you. You would have read about dear old Pinny in my book some place. Half Persian half Manx that isd where his funny name comes from (short for PInnochio) he had a crazy stumpy kind of tail not long and fluffy like a Persian and not short like the Manx. We knew both the parents hehe!

I just moved one of the chapters of my book the first one on Church back early to be in more sync with the time I was writing about..I do have some others of Pinny withouth the light in front of him will share later. Thereis even one the same as the first church chapter with me and Nanna and Wendy but Pinny is looking up Wendy's dress! Oh me!

I have a book of Cat stories here. Will get the title and compiler's name for you. Got it through Double day book club years ago and I really related to some of the stories as I do believe cats take on the personalities of their owners...but who owns who ? ha!

Thanks friend another new friend ha keep meeting new people on FS.
It does not hurt to use the washing affect on some photos for artistic purposes I was only sorry I did not get this photo of Pinny from the other side. The photo is very old converted from an old black and white print back when b/w photography was a lot cheaper than colour. If you can read ther other reviews I hav e gone into more details about Pinny etc I also mention him in my Autobiography check my profile for The LIttle Dog That Wouldn't let go. Thanks appreciate your review.

Thanks Bro. I loved old Pinny I mention him in my book that I am reorganizing and if you can see other reviews you will gert more on why we called him Pinnochio (Pinny for short) Appreciate the review.
