Yes!! You are spot on. I love the author notes. It's how you ran the race! I need to remember that. Always trying to compete and be the brave soul when all along we are not in competition but doing our utmost best and competing against ourselves from day to day. Awesome Dean!

Extremely inspiring teachable words to live by.At an early age we are encouraged to live a life of abundance, but somewhere between 1st grade and senior year in high school it's rubbed out of us. We have to take it upon our self to run the best race for ourselves. We cannot stop reaching for that finish line.
"There is a path that's tried and true,
to walk or run, it's up to you." I believe we are all born with a six sense that tells us, "no, this is not for you, but this is." However, fear makes us fight that inner voice.
This is a wake up poem that reaches out and says just try, you might cross the line after all. Great poem. I will print this out.

Then the rest aabb rhyme. You hold a very fine iambic tetrameter through out. The first two lines are feminine couplets. Very well done with a strong, upbeat theme.

I particularly liked the thought: "abstain from mediocrity." Indeed mediocrity goes hand in hand with apathy; which is anathema of your poem. Interestingly, the world in general are only interested in who wins a race. Trophies are rarely awarded to those who 'finish.'
