I love the story. Sometimes people are handed a very wrong problem. Being born in the wrong body is a very hard problem. Every one has a hard problem when it comes to sex. Parents often reject children because they do not know how to deal with it. The writer dealt with the problem in secret. He (she) did not let it came a problem between him and his lover. Great work

I was waiting for this letter lol, I knew it had to be in the pile somewhere. Much more elegant than a Jerry Springer episode for sure, so kudos on that, I believe you did a great job capturing the struggle of the trans. community in this piece. Great work overall here and good luck in the contest, thanks for sharing.

This is a terrific entry for this contest. I have many gay friends and one that actually had the surgery. I can relate to being born in the wrong body after spending so much time talking to him/her. I also understand the difficulty in telling the truth, not knowing how it would be received. Since we are left not knowing how Mikal reacts to learning the truth, I am choosing to believe that while surprised and possibly shocked, he still loves her and understands. This is a superb entry and I sincerely wish you all the best.

That was a shocking and touching story. Very well told (though I'll never get used to that punctuation - well at least it is consistent).
One part doesn't sit well with me.
"at 19, i changed my name and started living as a woman. when i was 21 i finally had my surgery".
I wonder how Kevin passed for a woman for two years without surgery.
That is my only issue with the story.
I wish you luck in the contest, it was very well done and certainly does contain a "shocking surprise" as called for by the contest directives.

lots of women have to. they shave, use padded bras, let their hair grow and curl it or something. the surgery just refers to removing things that were not supposed to be there.... maybe i should say "physical surgery"? hmm will think how i can make it more clear.... thank you yeltel :-)

But it's very poignant to read about someone boxed into a life they did not want and could not choose.
I guess some people would read the above and think the writer a traitor. In a life where I have been repeatedly abused by deceit, no matter what other feelings I might have and they would be ambivalent, I would love the person for being honest about such a difficult subject.

lol no. not me. but my nephew is gay and anytime someone says something derogatory about gays, it turns my stomach lol
