So powerful. When I read structure poems like this...you really make me want to take a stab at it. I think I get discouraged because of all the science formula's behind it to make sure its structure to its format. I will have to practice this...I loved this poem Trischel. You are truly a master at all forms..daring and bravely conqured.

What an amazing poem, Tom. Life in those times were very dangerous, and it was the church that made it so. Religion has been used for many injustices, it is a wonder anyone goes to church anymore. It still happens today. This is such a good contest entry, Tom, a wonderful read, and well written. I wish you every success in the contest. xsx sandra

Thank you Sandra. I tried to capture the sense of joy of scientific discovery and the terror that would have been felt as the church clamped down.

This is an extremely thought-provoking poem. It flows well. The poem leads the reader into a path where their bigotry, prejudice and suspicion poisons the pure air of true scientific knowledge. It is a tale that has repeatedly plagued history. These false doctrines and religion bearing their influence in destroying morality and greatness. Well done, Tom. You deserved the six stars for the hard work you put into this and the brilliant poetic tale you told. Keep up the great writing, friend.

Wow, what a wonderful write, a crown of superb sonnets, I thoroughly enjoyed every one, I have always been fascinated by this history, of how the church was so closed to science and truth.

I really wish I had a six for this marvelous work of art.

this is one I wrote about Galileo.

Galileo galilei how did they not see?
How valuable your work was going to be
You tried to enlighten, but it was in vain
Truth was held back, by the religious reign
Your genius punished, for an astute contribution
Sharing this knowledge would reach the solution
Aristotle's view was wrong, his world was geocentric
Galileo had the truth, no doubts it was heliocentric
A martyr for science, struck down by religious bigotry
Because he tried to educate them on astrometry

Thank you Mary. I loved your poem . It hit on the heliocentric view. I didn't touch on that.

Breath taking work marvelously laid out. I heard music behind the words, light and hopeful in the beginning then dark and dangerous toward the end. A powerful theme to take on and create it into Heroic Sonnet form. You made it look easy but I have a feeling it wasn't. Thank you for presenting this to us.

Excellent crown of sonnets, the story of the ravages of ignorance during the renaissance carried out well through your narrator. Sad thing is science is still regarded in this way today, by religion but also by huge corporations that buy their own version of the truth when it comes to such things as global warming. I really enjoyed this and wish I had a six. Just one typo- quam should be qualm.

Hi, Treischel,
"Scientific Inquisition" is exceptional in the amount of talent and work it took to put together 7 good sonnets on a single theme that follows the required format. It also emphasizes an important theme; how conviction that truth is known can block scientific research. "quam" should be spelled qualm" toon is an abbreviation for cartoon which makes no sense in context and is used simply as a forced rhyme for tune. Good luck in the contest. It is a good attempt to tell an important story poetically.

Wow! The amount of research that must've gone into this poem. Quite a Herculian effort. Very well done. It's hard to imagine such brutality. It's amazing what people will do to protect their archaic beliefs.
