Of course it is fine to write simple free verse. I have one I am about to post. Don't worry about even trying to rhyme. Just speak from the heart sharing daily experiences.

Don't put yourself down. I have read some that you have done even recently that have it. I think you ean it's gotten harder, not that it's gone.

I'm a free verse boy, so I don't need rhyme. Hahaha. Your meter is just fine. All your work has a nice flow to it. Sometimes people follow all the rules and their work still doesn't read quite right. You needn't worry about that. The main thing is your content is always interesting and honest. That is what poetry is really all about. Like this piece here. Very honest and interesting. It is quite possible a serious fall can effect your brain even if you don't actually hit your head. You have damage to the speech center. You will see only partial problems when trying to talk or write. Like you may have problems n with rhyme and meter. I have that after a serious car accident. The good news is that this damage can heal up to ten years after the accident. More good news is the brain becomes better adapt at other forms of communications. I was better at free verse poetry. Great work.
