I liked the interesting story of the trip and the funny side comments about the serving of soft drink and ice cream instead of something warm. Giving just the highlights was a good idea. This was a well written short story.

This is a very interesting story. The author taps into the emotions and feelings of the reader in this one. A little trip down memory lane is always good for the spirits to lift them up. Well done.

Yeah well I was visiting on a Face Book page dedicated to the old High School that no longer exists and remembered I had a solitary School magazine in which the story I wrote was published wayyyy back in 1966.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for the review.

What a great story. Beautifully done.
"We flew across Bass Strait, and touched down at Launceston at
two o'clock. There I was met by the people with
whom I was to stay for the next 9 nights.

During my visit I went to inspect the Hydro-
Electric Commission's underground power station
at Poatina. "

The writer does a good job of gradually pulling the reader into this story. The story is well balanced as the pace is steady and consistent. I see no errors or nothing I would change in this story. Good job.

Thanks for your review. I am trying to think what Mode; the "Fan Jet??" was. I know I flew in a Boeing 727 back from Perth in 1974 but I am guessing 727's weren't around in 1966. Any ideas? I know we flew down to Melbourne in an old Prop jet and same across the 'Strait'.

Tasmania sounds like a fascinating place. It and Australia are high on my bucket list. You chronicle well the destinations of your trip and the excitement you felt at having this opportunity. Brooke

Hi Brooke my Dad left us when I was 8 and it was only after his visit to Mum and me the same year, prior to this trip I discovered he actually paid for it. Probably the only thing he ever did for us. No child support back in 'them days' But that's another story. Thanks for the lovely review.

I tried to get child support out of my ex - that was a fiasco, so I understand :-)

Yeah well God was very gracious. My Mum was friends with a couple in our church circles. He worked for our then Social Services. He knew of my Mum's desparate need of financial support. In those days to get support the poor deserted wife had to actually go to court to charge the melingering hubby to get support out of him. I won't go into all the details but anyway this gentleman went to his Authorising Officer and explained my Mum's dilemma and cut a long story short she was granted the Deserted Wive's Pension straight away.
You wouldn't believe it but 20 years after dad left us he and Mum were re-united in a Second Marriage. Both no longer with us, now.
