All good advice. I think I have spotted a few typo's...
You wrote this:
Usually, these individuals' minds are close to what you are saying,
* Did you mean: CLOSED?
You wrote:
This type is not usually not mean-spirited, but may lack the ability to focus,
*Perhaps one 'not' should be deleted.

Thanks, Curly Girly, for reviewing and commenting on this one, I appreciate it! "Close" is correct, but "I did have an extra "not" that I deleted. Thanks for the sharp eye!

I've just experienced one of those soul-searching moments when I've tried to think back to a time when I haven't paid as much attention as I should! I've done some TV work in the past and I was amazed at what I 'didn't' like about my body movement or eye contact during the interviews, so I know what you mean. It's great to be reminded though! Thank you for yet another informative and enjoyable piece of writing.

Thanks, Alexis! I started watching body language when I was a supervisor at the Social Security Administration. You wouldn't believe some of the personalities and the negative body language. I needed everything I could get - LOL.

This sounds like the professional at work. Excellent tips for the home and workplace. Sometimes we are aware of our non-verbal communication but I think all communication should be verbal, at least most of them should be.

I understand your frustration with the title editor. I think Tom should allow more characters.
This is an interesting essay that uses examples to good advantage. Children are natural masters of the art of nonverbal combat. They tune out ranting adults with the greatest of ease - one can tell by their continuing to do the very things you're yelling at them about.
I think you've done an excellent job in providing an introduction to an enormous and fascinating field. Of course, just to make it more complex, there are cultural variables to body language. For example, in some countries it's considered rude to make eye contact.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Julia for this awesome review. Yes, the title line is too short. I almost always have to truncate my titles. When I was supervisor, I did have different ethnic groups and it was sometimes a challenge to ensure everyone was being treated fairly.

You are so right. I think I'll take this to school with me...lol. Just kidding. I get that type of body language all the time. Also, my husband, who is in the car business, has to watch and train his sales staff all the time for exactly the reasons you state.
Excellent essay, Dossie!

Actions do speak louder than words, and many are masterful at this nonverbal gymnastics.===I totally agree with this statement, but it seems a little awkward grammatically. You say many are masterful at THIS nonverbal gymnastics..I'm wondering if it shouldn't be these..actions are plural and gymnastics is plural..this is singular and this refers to both actions and gymnastics, right? I'm thinking you should either change it to these or period after words. You could then say Many are masterful at these nonverbal...

'nonverbal gymnastics' is totally new to me. That sounds like body language, however, I enjoyed your verbiage. People think communications are simple. But there are so many different ways. Sometimes, it is important to be aware of our nonverbal cues. Well researched, thought out and nicely written. Objective. Excellent work.

Interesting. Actions do speak louder than words. So often said, but true. Nonverbal is sometimes a better indicator if you know how to pick up on that. Great write! But as you see these words have all been written before. It's all I have. Great! Les

Body language tells all. It seems like we don't use any at all but the secret is that we do. It may be very subtle but it's there.

Did you know that lawyers pick a jury based on nonverbal clues? How they walk into the room, how they sit and how they position their hands? You have just begun the list with your two examples. Whole books have been written on the subject. This is a well-written introduction.

I didn't know that, which is probably why I get selected so often. I'll know how to act the next time. Last year, I was on a Federal panel that nearly sent me to the hospital. I never, ever want to go through that again. Thanks for this awesome review!

Next time, slouch in your chair and put your arms across your chest-- the closed off position.

I'll do that!
