This is great for the voice is great as with your short stories that I have read. A perfect voice maintained throughout, so that at the end you feel as the reader that you've been sitting at a table in a bar listening to the tale being told all along.

Have Tom change your category to Poetry, Western. it is well written by a pen so talent and made Justice's scales balance. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words. Good luck in your contest.

Coleman's the King all right! Excellent rhyme that told a fabulous story with a great sense of time and place. Best of luck in the contest with this really entertaining read.

A great story told in quatrain form!! It was wonderful with the vernacular and all. I wonder just where he did take off for, eh?

As usual, spectacularly cool! Your style is so wonderfully different and your ability to transport me right into the scene, as if I'm right there, is really amazing. You just can write anything and make it seem effortless.

Thanks again. This was a treat to read. Good luck in the contest!

This is just great! I liked the rambling style, the shifty rhymes, and the way you painted a picture of the gambler. I live in the CA motherlode country, and stories of the early mining camp gamblers abound. They all had a secret weapon, Coleman would fit right in.
Cheers, irish

Thank you so much, irish. I would loved to have been a fly on the wall at some of these mining camps and boom towns. I suppose that's why I like to mix history with my fiction. I'm so glad you enjoyed. Peace, Lee

Awesomeness - really enjoyed this story. I couldn't really find anything to nitpick; and you managed to keep my attention throughout and for that you deserve a six. Good luck in the contest, this is certainly a strong entry!

A tale of a cheat. Well sure he was good at it until the end of course. Well written story in form of a ballad. I enjoyed reading it thoroughly. Any more like this one, and I'll get you another dram!

Thank you, Bad. Yes, this is pretty much a ballad. If you'll stand me another dram, I'll be happy to spin you another yarn.
    Thanks again. Peace, Lee
