The contrast between the heat of the land and the coolness of the car's interior was well done. Your did a good job making me feel for the horse. I could see this story as a longer piece where the action shifted between the horse and the car several times, concluding when the came together. Nice job.

Gosh! What a tale, you tell it so well. The horse tells the first part of your tale, and then we get the young girl's perspective of the poor horse's plight. So expressive and so very, very sad. What an excellent piece of prose, Realist, you had me 'feeling'. Regards, TM

This is such a sad write and it brought a tear or two. You wrote it in such a way it was very visual and one can but feel the suffering of the animal. Maybe that is why it has stayed with because you sensed the suffering - at 9 your compassion would have been a lot stronger than your father's whose main ambition was to get those miles done with.

Hi again Dana! Thank you so much. This happened...tho of course, i can't know the horses real thoughts. It sure was a depressing sight. My dad meant no harm, he was tired and just wanted to get home. His average speed on those long stretches was 100 mph. He did slow and we tried to see a town, but that horse was out in the absolute middle of nowhere. So awful. Anyway...had to kill a coon last night, it was in the barn swiping cat food. THAT is depressing. I don't like it. My son and brother did the deed and I cried..God help me. xoxo. Susan

This is such a sad and tragic story and even more so because it is true. Your description of the heat is superb and something I can relate to. Got locked out of my apartment today and had to wait an hour for the locksmith to come and it is 90 degrees with 95 percent humidity. Excellent work with this one.

Hi Barb...I wish I knew. It still, after 49 years, bugs me. This photo just brought it all back, this looks so like that place. The awful worry I have over things I can't help, or control is just torture. I wish I could shut down. I worry too much. But, thank you dear. I am always SO happy when you enjoy. Love, Susan
