Hi Bev! I am hooked on this story. I was watching a movie in the other room and suddenly thought of your story. I had this strong urge to read more chapters. I had not heard of this posole before. I can't handle spices so I won't be able to investigate it further. LOL I love learning about new things in stories :) As I read this chapter I was reminded that I meant to place a priest in my bonfire chapter. Woopsies. I'll have to rectify that. Get it??? LOL rector, rectory, rectify. I know, groaner. Please forgive me for any silly typos in my review. I am using the laptop and I have seen silly things pop up that I would not normally do. I could be losing my mind too, but who knows.

Hi, Joy. Posole can be made without the hotter style chilis. It's tastes a little like a good bean soup and very delicious. I love that you are finding my story interesting, Joy. That's so cool! Thanks, so much, for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it, Joy.

    Hugs, Bev

So where did all of the religious artifacts go? I know the killer has a thing about rosaries, but pictures and crosses as well? I love the imagery you create from your simple dialogue, for example the smile of the priest when greeting the sheriff at the door. 'A tight smile that did not trespass the corners of his mouth.'

Another good write, Bev!

Great story and fun to read. The dialogue is natural and doesn't seem to forced. Your characters are interesting and keep wanting more. I'll be sure to keep reading.

Hi, inkedone. I have to tell you that I really appreciate your kind review on my other piece, Diamonds to Rust, considering it was such a mess. As you, hopefully, can tell, I'm normally a little more fastidious. I had pushed post instead of save on that piece and so it went out really messed up.

Thanks so much for your interest, and I do hope to 'see' you again sometime.

    Warm regards, Bev

You weave a good tale here. I enjoyed reading it. I am gonna look out for more as I am very curious about where this leads. It is fun writing stories with priests as characters because there are so many different directions they can go. Some of them can be rather shocking. Not sure just yet with this one. Good writing! Well done!

Hi Writingfundimension,

Hmmm, you've certainly created a rather nasty psycho-killer here, one that obviously has a thing about religious symbols.

Good dialogue and great tension building, with a powerful hook on the end to pull the reader into the next chapter.

Good one.

Patrick

I enjoyed reading it.
This is another good post.
You are doing a good job with the characters.
I like the referense to Sheriff Kane as one of your sheriffs heroes. You bring interesting information about Debra's home not having any religious items. Well done!
It was interesting and clever piece.
Thanks for sharing.

A great follow on chapter. The Sheriff comes across as a likeable, no-nonsense, if somewhat gruff, kind of guy. I like the added detail you put in, like the Sheriff's uniform giving off a smell when damp. I'm not surprised the Priest wants police presence, so would I. Look forward to the next chapter

Thanks for this great review, ladybird. And thank you for noting the details, I'm trying to work on 'showing', so that's a nice affirmation for me. I really appreciate your support and encouragement. Warm regards, Bev

You're welcome. You do a great job of 'showing' so no worries on that score.

Great job of making this more and more suspenseful. But it that really the killer? This made me read at the edge of my seat. Well-written and tight. Can't find a thing I would change. I liked the way the priest was with his dog, makes him more like a real person than what people have in mind a priest should be like. Great job with characterization.

Hello there, Wanda. Thank you so much for this wonderful review. I so appreciate you taking time to point out what you liked about the story. I think a lot of people see the clergy as stiff - the pastor of our church bakes, cooks, gardens and makes a bunch of wreaths for our Christmas festival! So, I'm patterning Father Brian a bit after him.

Thanks for caring enough to read and review.

    Hugs, Bev
