Thank you, Barbara - I really appreciate the read. I had no idea where I was going with this until about half way through, but that certainly made it interesting :-)

Hi Fleedleflump, I enjoyed the read! A real page turner...imagery/intense kept me right through to the end. Thought it was a chapter at first, but see it is a complete work. I enjoyed the sequence of events... was a refreshing change. all the best, turtledove. p.s. I was not a big fan of Sci fi but I enjoy your work...it has me a fan.

Thanks so much, Turtle :-). I could probably make a longer story out of it, if needed, but in this case I kept it as a single part - too many other stories to write!

Loved this story. You have a great way of keeping the story running, and building tension along the way. Nice use of the science talk. Just enough to explain what is happening and not overwhelm the reader.

Thanks very much for sharing.

Thank you, Cali. I'm glad you said that, because I was a bit worried about how techy to get with the talk. I'm so happy you enjoyed it :-)

Wow, an incredible journey, from the first paragraphs(Which may also have been the last?) to the very last word. The lab setup was very real, there are many companies doing this very type of research as our knowledge and understanding of our cousins of other species expands.
Good, fully fleshed characters, and great interaction between them. A great effort, my friend!

An exceptionally well written story - I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It is definitely a very good piece of work. It is a binding tale and full of good quality images. The emotion between the two characters was communicated very well.

Looking forward to seeing more stories from you. You definitely have the potential to write excellent stories.

Thank you, DB :-). I went through a phase of being terrified of dialogue and character interaction, which I worked on by writing a load of scripts a couple of years ago. It's great to know I'm alright in this area now. So glad you enjoyed the read!

Excellent story and a very suspenseful read. I never thought of writing a "frenzied" opening then putting a story with it. Great idea to set yourself a challenge like that, then go with it. I get "stuck" with no ideas for weeks, then I suddenly get inspired. I've got to get to where I can purposely sit down and write everyday. Anyway, it seems like a good way to get unstuck. But I loved this piece and it flowed so well, it didn't take very long to read. That's how I know something is good, and great in this case!

Thank you :-). That's exactly what this was - a way to unstick myself. I love writing, but I have trouble deciding what to write about.

I'm thinking of setting up a contest like this - give people a scene full of implications and challenge them to write what came before.

I think that is a great idea for a contest. Let me ask you-is it easier for you to write a story if you already have an ending in mind. It seems that is the ONLY way I can write. The ending has to be solid in my mind (not word for word) before I can write the first word. Give me a good ending, and I can usually come up with something pretty good. But I may try this approach of yours. Thanks for the idea.

Fleedle-
Not bad for having given yourself such a challenge there. Very interesting and action-packed. Nicely done, and no needed corrections noted. Very good.

When man plays God, he meets the Devil face to face. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for an exciting read.

Hi Mike,

When I saw how long this story was I almost didn't read it, but thank heavens I did. It is engrossing and I was engaged it in from the very first line to the last. One wonders how many experiments are going on that we don't know about...just as well we don't as they might scare us to death. Your superior writing skills are apparent in every line of this story and I am so sorry I don't have a six for you. Your vivid imagination has written a horror story and made it come alive for me. Bravo! chey

Thank you, Chey - what a wonderfully complimentary review :-). I haven't had that many reviews, but I knew it was a bit longer than most people go for. I was on the cusp of a two-parter, but I don't like doing that when I basically started at the end, as readers of part 1 never get back to the opening scene.

I'm sure this experiment isn't that far from reality - scary indeed!

    Thanks again.

This is really good, an interesting read that is very well written. I found it intriging from the start, I like the idea of the story too. I especially like the last bit; nobody ever catches a dragon. Well done.
