I've felt much the same way looking through a box full of family pictures. I know the pictures show people who should have some connection to me, but without a name or how they may be related to me they are strangers.

It is a problem without the names. I know that sometimes I failed to write the names or the time or year thinking I would remember. Maybe that was one problem and too, possibly no pen handy. We live in the days of plenty, but in times past, something simple as a pen may have been used and not replaced leaving one without.

Very nicely written, Nancy.

This poem captures my own thoughts about genealogy and the family tree at this point in my life.
I found the poem interesting and it captivated me.
Cleverly crafted and nicely presented as always.
It's such a shame that so many lovely poems etc aren't read because of the profile the writer has.
I'm so glad you have more interest in your work now.

Thank you for the review and comments Shirley. Why do you think the profile affects what we post? I have always wondered why some people avoided my work even when I was in the top five. Was my profile the reason? Have a lovely day dear. . xsx Nancy

Sorry if I offended you Nancy.
By profile I meant the ability to keep our work in the top twenty so it's earning reviewers money and constantly on show.
I really admire and enjoy your work and your personal profile has nothing to do with readability.
I think perhaps the more known you are, and the greater the reward the more reviews you receive.
I am certainly not blessed with many followers.
I hope this clears up my comments.

Excellent original theme, Nancy.

After your exciting discovery, you express your strong interest in the faces of your ancestors, extremely well - not only in their looks, but also in their lives, and the fact you want to know more about them.

Top flow and rhymes.

Very entertaining read, my friend.

Cheers, Ray xx

Thank you Ray. I am so pleased you like it. I would guess you didn't intend to rate it a four, right? Accident I am sure. xsx Nancy

It's so funny that you chose to post this now. I told my husband a couple of weeks ago that half of his family pictures don't have names on them and he has no clue who they are. This weekend his mother is coming down for a visit and I am setting the box of photos in front of her and handing her a pen. Lol. Great rhythm and I love d the earnest feeling I got when I read it. Great job. Gretchen

Nancy, I can relate to this piece. I have so many pictures of
my family/ancestors and have no idea who they are, where it
was taken and how they relate to me if at all. I just close the
album and will send it on to my children.
But this is a beautifully well written piece and good rhyme
and pace. -Bill

Lovely poem, my friend. My grandma never would use an electric sewing machine. She used a treadle or did it by hand. As she grew older, she had my aunt do buttonholes on the electric one for her. Have a good evening, my friend~Debbie

Nancy this is lovely. What a poem and the story within. Wouldn't we all like to know who is who when we look at old family pictures and nobody alive anymore to tell the story. A note of names, place and year would indeed have been nice. Wish I had a six left. I loved this one. All the best. Ulla

We all seem to have that special box with photos from the past. People you don't even knew, from places you have never seen. But somehow they are connected to you somehow.

Oh, I just love this poem. I have many, many pictures of folks from my family tree. People just keep sending them, 'cos they know I'll take care of them - I've ID'd many of them - but some remain a mystery, and as the generation ahead of me is mostly gone - I know that some of these people will never be tied to a name in the family tree. That's sad, really. I hope you find out who these folks are. They were real people, and as you say - they had their struggles and deserve to be remembered.
As always, I love your meter. Even way back in 2012, it was spot on. Thanks for reviving this wonderful poetic.
Rose.
