Your poem is fantastic, well written, and a nice story all in one. I enjoyed reading about "chickenpox" in a new way, that I would not of expected to hear. It is definitely original and a pleasure to read.

Hi Kathleen, so sorry I've been so long replying, I'm still on holiday in Austria, but have just managed to get onto the internet. The signal here is so bad. I'm delighted you enjoyed my children's poem, I have quite a following from schools and the library in my part of the UK. I love it when I read to the school children, they are a joy and ask me so many questions about these little critters. Thank you so much for going into my portfolio and finding this one. I wrote it when my young grandson had the chickenpox and he was so pleased they had it too. LOL. Thanks again, my friend. :) Sandra xx

Your story is cute. I enjoyed it. It all flowed well but I did get lost #4 stanza, (I apologize if I'm reading it wrong). now and row. Thanks, Kelly

Hi Kelly, Thank you so much for reading and reviewing my Hedgerow Capers poem, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The words 'Now and Row' are pronounced the same, (both like...how...vow) Row... meaning making a noise. As are many words in the English language, Row, is also pronounced in other ways, like... Row and go...no...blow' as standing in a row, or row a boat etc. I am UK English, so we do pronounce many words differently to the American's, we like to be different! lol! Thanks again, my friend. xx Sandra

This was great, hilarious, and good child's story. The characters chosen and the plot spots, that turn out to be chicken pox. I recently contracted the virus leading to shingles, it was not a pleasant experience. But your poem was outstanding and I loved it so. All the best

Oh, I had shingles, so very painful! I wrote this one when my neighbours daughter had the chicken pox, it made her laugh. She was covered head to toe with the itchy spots. Thank you, my friend, for looking out these poems and reading them. I'm really glad you have enjoyed them. xsx Sandra

This shows the quick spread of a communicable disease like chickenpox. I don't think it starts that quickly after contact though. I like the easy full rhymes and the slant rhymes.

Keep writing

Thank you, Dragonpoet. You went back a long way to find this one!
I had a lot of fun writing my Hedgerow Capers stories, I wrote over 30 of them, half have been published, the others are still being illustrated. I'm glad you liked this one. :) Sandra. xsx

I loved that!

Both versions are very well-written, but I like the poem better. The reason is mainly because of the rhyme scheme. It makes the whole thing more lively and fun.

I look forward to reading your next work :)

Lots of hugs

Thank you, Amanda. I am really pleased you went and had a look for this one. I personally prefer writing in rhyme, this one has already been published with 10 more stories, by Melrose Publishers. I was asked if I could write the stories in prose as well, which is what I am doing now. Thank you so much for reading both versions and giving me your opinion, I really appreciate it. xsx Sandra

    You're welcome, Sandra:)

Wow! Published! That's so awesome!! So I can buy your books off the Internet?

Yes, you can. This story and 10 more are all in the one book called, Hedgerow Capers by Sandra Stoner Mitchell, on Amazon. This book is not self published. It is all illustrated and all in rhyme. If you type my name in, you will see my books come up. I was chuffed to bits, and was invited to do readings in schools, that was soooo frightening!!!! LOL. :) I'm glad you liked it, Amanda. xsx Sandra.

oh okie!!! I saw then on amazon. I can't get them in China cuz the chinese version is very limited when it comes to ordering foreign books.

I will definitely get them once I am back in America.

This is a humorous children's poem! I'm curious--were you inspired by Shel Silverstein and his book Runny Babbit (the book also has a poem about little animals and catching chicken pox)? I like the little twist on the end in how Timmy and Tommy catch the pox too. As just a small detail you should probably change--in the first line of the last part, you put a comma after "Vole," when you should probably put a question mark, since Timmy is asking a question. Nice poem, though, overall!

Hello Ashley, I was really surprised to see a review on this one, I posted it almost a year ago. Do you know, I didn't notice the ? was missing! I have just looked in the book, and fortunately my publishers editor did!! I will change it on here though, thank you for letting me know, and thank you for the lovely review. Oh, this is just one of the stories in the first Hedgerow series, it was only published because my FS reviewers liked them and encouraged me to send them out. Actually, this may sound awful, but I have never heard of Shel Silverstein, I am going to look on the internet now. Thank you again! xsx Sandra

Spots and chicken pox will add enough tension to your story to keep your readers interested. This part of your poetic story had a few brief hiccups to you rhymes and your rythm that might be noticeable as this will be a read aloud story.
eg gone and long aren't the best fit

What shall we do would be a better rhythm but you need now to rhyme.
Most enjoyable.

I will go back into this one and read it aloud again. I do try to read it as if I hadn't seen the story before, as we all tend to read differently, and it's amazing how this has picked up changes in my rhythm and needed changes. I relied heavily on my reviewers in this as well, and normally they never failed me! FanStory is such a brilliant place to learn and improve! Thank you for this informative and lovely review, Christina, I really appreciate your time. xsx

A very nice children's poem. The meter was bouncy and moved jauntily on the page. I also liked that this could stimulate kids and parents to talk about disease prevention in light of this poem's ending. nice job.
