I wished this chapter delved a little deeper into the session. I think it would have been even more impactful for the reader to understand the process of healing and the struggle it is for Anna.

barbara:

I'm sorry I missed this when you first posted it. It
is an important step for Anna to take -- learning from
other women who have experienced what she has that it
is not her fault. For anyone who has been abused in any
way, being able to get to the point of acceptance of
that fact is the first step to the emotional recovery.

thanks for sharing
love,
jan

Anna has finally understood the truth. The beatings and abuse wasn't her fault. They were all Bobby's problems. She was someone he took his frustrations on.

Good continuing chapter, Barbara. Also good author notes; glad you got to spend Thanksgiving with your family. Wonderful that your parents are doing well at 80.

i get the feeling youre one of those lucky people who finds writing easy. I get that from your writing. There are a few people like that on this site and youre one of them. This was concise and direct, and flew down the page.

An excellent chapter. How good of Troy to take Anna to a support group. Your story is so true to life. Anna's reaction to realizing she wasn't responsible for the abuse is well written.

Hi, Barbara. This is an informative chapter for me. You're right. Abuse deprives a person of self respect, as shown through Anna in this chapter. The healing is not immediate but is not impossible. Thanks for sharing.

I thought this was a very powerful installment, Barbara. The depth of the damage done to Anna becomes clear in her actions, and speaks louder than an excess of words. Troy is just the type of person to help her, for sure. He guides, byut doesn't push. Good luck as you continue her story. Be well. Larry

Dare I say that she is awfully easy to convince - I know this may be part of the conditioning of her previous life, but having made a break from that, she is allowing herself to be steered around again.... I suspect it would not be quite so easy although I respect your reasons for introducint the support group.

Hi Barbara:}
This is a short, but extremely important post. The healing process is often long and difficult. In far too many case the vitims of abuse retain the oppressive fears brought about constant accusations of,'see what you made me do." In fact, this is a psychological projection abusers use to excuse their actions. Without therapy the abusers often are blind to their responsibility for everything that happens.

Now Anna has just learned of this phenomena of abuse and understands for the first time;

"I spent almost two years believing if I was a better wife and mother I wouldn't get beaten. The counselor explained how it isn't our fault." She pulled away and hit the railing beside her. "That bastard! He took my self-respect." {Now the real healing begins.

Great writing. This book can help many victims of abuse understand how they surrendered thier personal power.

Love and Irish hugs

Roger
