A well written essay with chilling ideas. How do you get people to invest in businesses, which provide jobs, if you're taxing at 50%? In high cost places like NYC, Atalnta, Dallas, Chicago, L.A. you're talking about an average income on which state and local taxes eat up another 30% or more of income. Would I work hard for $20K or go on welfare? Hmmm. Well expressed, though. :) nancy

Business tax is usually around 12%. Income tax is at a much higher rate.

well busines tax is usually around 10% and companies are set up as corporations for that very reason, including a lot of free lances, contract workers and commission agents. My percentages are not differentialted by federal and state tax, but as a total number. Then there are tax deductable pension contributions and personal exemptions, but my statement about the US is one of the lowest individual tax countries in the world is a fact. If you do some research you'll see just how fortunate US ctizens are in the tax dept.

Theere's a lot happening outside US borders in terms of economics that would shock citizens.

Hi SE, I really do think the President would do well to hire you as his speech writer. This is an out-front message that pretty well covers the gambit of the problems in the U.S. today. In my opinion we are in a total mess!! Very scary. Well written and well thought through. xxSusan

I really enjoyed reading the President Speaks. You've touched on so many issues that are not only screaming loudly to Americans but also to other parts of the world. You're speaking from the point of view of the President of the USA, but your sentiments could just as easily have been written from the point of view of the Prime Minister of where I live, in Australia. Your story reads of identical concerns and hard economic times, when everyday people are struggling.
Your writing is so easily readable and presents a common-sense point of view. Well done.

I can tell you this as you have a similar government as mine. I'm not in the US, but Canada and the world gets more news about America, than the average American gets about it's neighbours. Yes, I totally believe in common sense. It's a huge country, the US and by virtue of the population size the problems are also big. I think they've got lost in the super power sydrome. Thanks for you very generous review.

I LIKE YOUR PRAGMATIC APPROACH. I sometimes believe we are already a socialist country. We are just too afraid to say it aloud. I also believe in the idea of making us earn the right to be American.

"For those of you who do not fully understand economics, let me be clear; China is the majority stockholder in America. We will never be able to repay our debt in my lifetime and unless we reclaim our country and begin to believe in ourselves, our children will have Mandarin as a required school subject." Bam!! To: "The people who are getting rich don't send their kids to Iraq. They are busy accumulating wealth so that their kids will never know what a callous feels like" Bam!! To:"Every American citizen will be obliged to do community service, forty hours annually in order to retain their citizenship. Being an American, by birth or choice is a privilege and every one of us will pay for our national pride by service to others." BAM!! Superb Ingrid. Superb

INGRID FOR PRESIDENT! Wow! Yes Ma'am! I love this, especially from a Canadian...you do know that SOMEDAY, your country, this one, and Mexico will be combined? So I hear. All kinds of things people think can never happen, sure will! I love your candor and bravery in this. I chickened out on the word of a negative review and deleted my political satire. I am a coward. AND the CIA does have files, ON YOU TOO! Anyone who is not a robot, is watched. ") Oh yes! xoxo...the paranoid, factoid filled, maniacal, .... S.

My, my. You certainly didn't shy from some hot button issues here. But if you are the President, maybe you shouldn't? It's bad here in the states when I'm wishing they would revive the old Popeye cartoon, where Olive Oil sings what she would do if she were President. It wouldn't hurt to have Olive Oil. Would it? I enjoyed it. The writ and the wit. Peace out. Stan

Well, you know Stan, I've always been a from the hip shooter and it doesn't seem to matter what the subject is.

Last week I watched a piece on ABC news about a clinic in a Boston hospital and they see 40 children a week for malnutrician. They give out food like a food bank and trace their deterioration. How sad is that?
reply by forestport12 on 27-Sep-2011
The families are given food, but then they come back in worse shape? I didn't catch that one. I'm always curious to see how others not in the states feel about the United states. I think it may not be long before we as a country are humbled by the red dragon of China. No more anglo saxon victories in the offing lately.

The reality is that China IS a major creitor to the US debt.

You can't define from a short contest write the true depth of both respect and awe that a non-national has for the US. The country has major problems (as do many countries in the last decade but the population is so big that it is impossible to micro manage all the problems and address the true enemy that I believe is over-confidence. While you are an enlightened man, there are literlly millions who have no idea what is happening beyond US borders. To me the isolated patiotism is dangerous if a citizen of any country believes that a new government or a new leader will make things better and solve evryone's problems. It's time for people to rediscover their pioneer instincts and take up the flag of personal revolution.....but what do I know. As a Canadian, people expect me to keep my mouth shut. All this while the US is in every corner of the world.....very fuzzy to have a black and white opinion.
reply by the author on 27-Sep-2011
Oh, and by the way, neither you or I can take claim to any anglo-saxon umbrella. Your Polish heritage and my Latvian ancestry disqualify us to claim that tag.

What a satire, Spiritual Echo!
At times one wonders what prominent world leaders are up to. In our world of ultra fast, super clear communications and exposed media, the facts are there for all to see. No mystery, no illusions.
Is leadership, then, no more than a game of chess? Are citizens to be discounted as pests are?
An excellent write which I wish you'd send to some major newspaper or magazine to remove cataract from most politicians, and to unblock deafened ears.
Good luck and best wishes.
