Hello, Aussie.
This is a holding and interesting write. I am sorry to be so long in getting to it. I thoroughly enjoyed this historical and informative work. I never even knew that there had been another Mary Poppins. This read was just exceptional.

Hi Rebecca, A lot of folks think that Mary Poppins originated in the States; she was written by an Australian and later, Disney used the book to make the movie. Blessings, Kay.

The spirit of Mary Poppins was on show everywhere in the city centre as a crowd estimated at 10,000 rolled into town for yet another fun day./ Maybe the crowd tramped, trundled, or swept, but it could hardly roll unless all members were on skates----The food stalls, rarely left idle as the crowd sauntered their way around the festival./If you leave out their way, that sentence would make sense----You have captured an interesting subject, probably not known to many in writorial glory. Well done.

G'day axelbeariter, I smiled when you said about the crowed rolled into town - this is a typical Australian way of speaking. I thank you for reading and glad you liked the story. Cheers from Aussie.

Hi Aussie,
Great story! You really have a love for your hometown that comes through loud & clear. But I really LOVED the Mary Poppins Day. I'm a HUGE fan of Julie Andrews & Mary Poppins was the first movie I saw in a theater.
Thanks so much for sharing your hometown with us!
smiles,
deb

Hi Kace,
I read this piece with great interest as you tell so many facts I had not heard. When I was in OZ I don't remember seeing Queens Park or the river which your picture allows me to see for the first time. Your descriptions of the Mary Poppins Festival makes me want to see it. I loved the Mary Poppins movie and what a treat it would be see the festival. You have such great writing skills making this so interesting. Well done....blessings, chey

Hi Chey, You would have had to travel 3 hours from Brisbane to get to my city. Thanks for reading and glad you liked it. Bless you, Kace.

I remember the Mary Poppins brochure you sent me :-)
The food stalls, rarely left idle as the crowd sauntered. This is a fragment - you need to say something like The food stalls were rarely left idle...
Love the good detail that made me laugh as I visualized activities like the nanny race
typo - Mary poppins' autho PL Travers was born - Poppins
Pamela travers was born - Travers
I'd like to see more of a transition between the line where Travers died and the line about the river
I like the final line that gets back to Pamela Travers, but I'd like to see a bit more connection between the two sections of the essay before you get to that line, which is why I want to see a transition from the Mary Poppins section to the history of the town section :-) Brooke

Wow! I felt like I've been to Maryborough thru reading this lovely story. I could even picture the floods over the park. The Mary Poppins story was a great one and this place is a perfect setting for it. You made me want to come to Austrailia. Hugs, V.A.

Hi, Kaye, what a wonderful history you have provided us with here about Maryborough. Many of what you have written I was totally unaware of, and I was drawn right. Well written, interesting, presenting the facts in such a way as that it didn't sound like a history lesson, but an interesting journey through this town and its history.
Thanks for sharing, and warmest regards, Marijke :o)
