115 at least!
I have a friend who was just tested, scanned, and probed for suspicions of pancreatic cancer. When her tests came back okay, she was disgusted because the doctor said they would have to re-check her in a few years. I reassured her that, even with a routine colonoscopy, the doctors tell you the same thing; be happy that there's nothing there right now and that they are keeping check.
You are still in my prayers, Barbara. I'm happy for the update, and glad you were able to add a little humor to your story.

Thank you for your kindness. I understand what your friend went through. Last summer when I found out I had breast cancer, my OB/GYN found something suspicious in my cervix. So I was also afraid I had cancer there too. It ended up being nothing.

Hi Barbara. It would only be good to live to 115 if you were able to live a active life. I certainly wouldn't want to live in a nursing home and have to depend on others to do everything for me. Don't feel that you are alone. Both my husband and I live with the thought our cancer could come back and there are millions of others are in the same boat. The way to look at it is, we are all going to die from something someday. You're update is well written. Thank you for sharing it with us. You have my best wishes, April

Thanks so much for the update, Barbara. I know many share my appreciation for you taking time to let everyone know where you are on this journey of hills and valleys. I don't think doctors will use the word 'cured' in association with any cancer, it's not an assurance they can give, but it sounds like everything is set for the victory you deserve.

Heartwarming story. Very honest and personal look at the ordeal of what beating cancer entails. Enjoyed reading this.

I wish you well.

I am not sure what to improve to get five stars. Thank you for your kindnes.

Aha you need to write and tell us when you reach the grand old age of 100. That gets you 5 stars.

Hi Barbara, this is warm and funny. The little quips you added really made it. My friend who had breast cancer was told that after 7 years of being cancer free it's a good sign. She's been 5 years so far with one lump developing which turned out to be benign.

I have been told that after 5 years I would be classified as a survivor. I guess being cured and being a survivor is different.

The spirit and the understated humour with which you write this suggests that you will certainly adapt to the new realisation that cancer is never really beaten - although I am a little puzzled how you got so far down the track without someone telling you this!
Good luck! Chin up! Enjoy Remission!

I think I had it in my head that if did all of this, then I would be cancer free. Maybe just pure stubbornness and wanting to believe. Who know. Thank you for your kind review.

Oh my, you have expressed this so accurately! I have survived early breast cancer, but with 5 years of tamoxifen after 3 surgeries and radiation. Only now does research now admit has tamoxifen has permanent chemo effects! The first thing the oncologist suggested was augmentation. Gee, I thought getting rid of the cancer was priority! Yes, I too know why they have security stationed all around! Cured, but it hangs over one's head. Thank you for writing this. It makes the experience real for others, and reassures me that my own reactions as a patient are not abnormal.

I am doing the 5 years of Tamoxifen now. It and I don't see eye to eye at all, but my doctor says get used to it, it's the only drug you can take. I may still do him bodily harm. LOL

I just finished last October, and I totally empathize! Above all, take care of yourself - living well is the best revenge. Ultimately it drives doctors who shouldn't be in medicine right out of business! :)

Hi Barbara,
We haven't met but I was deeply touched by your honesty in sharing your journey down an uncertain path that so many travel on. I know in my heart the power of prayer and I send up a prayer for you tonight for total remission and a long life full of joy and writing. Just this piece that you wrote shows you are very talented. Please take care. Blessings.

My sympathies go out to you. I was not aware. I will review your state of mind instead of the written work. You are doing the right thing by doing everything possible. It sounds like you also have a good support system. Insensitive bastard that oncologist I would suggest actually doing him bodily harm next time. Hope you get some good news soon. On my birthday I will instead celebrate the end of your underarm pain.

Here's to yuor good health.
