You write great poetry, and apparently great short stories. I enjoyed the natural flow of your writing. Thanks for sharing..

Barbara,
I'm so happy my prayers were answered to make you better. I love your writing in this beautifully written essay. The cancer awareness ribbon you used as art work is great. I pray cancer doesn't rear its ugly head ever again for you. My cousin who had stomach cancer and it went to her right eye which the removed is Wilms and she quit living in fear of it coming back and got married. She's twenty-three now but she acquired cancer at the age of six and it took her over fifteen years to get rid of her cancer, but with her type there is fear of remission. She plans to live her life to the fullest. I'm turning forty-five on July 14, 2011 and the doctors five years ago when I was on life support said I'd be luck to make it to fifty if not sooner because of my Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension. Try eating organically and you'll get your strength back. I finally have mine back after my near death experience with Phenomena four or five months ago. Be leery of Lymphadema rearing its hateful head. Mine is acting up in my legs and has traveled to my butt, vjj and groin areas. I love your plans to live to the ripe old age of 115. Love ya.
Melissa.

Barbara-
That actually sounds pretty positive, given the circumstances. I don't know you at all, but I feel for you and send along my best wishes for you to hear those words.
Look at all the folks on FS who are in your corner. My personal thoughts are that positive thinking and good wishes do every bit as much for the patient as any post-surgical treatment. Please add mine to the pile.
You've certainly managed to sound positive here. Good for you.
Best to you and yours.

Thank you for sharing such a personal story. When I started writing a blog about a year ago, I was hesitant to write anything too personal. I am fairly private with my personal life. But the first piece I wrote about something personal really touched my readers, and I realized then, we all share similar experiences in life, and it comforts us to know someone else is going through the same thing. From the number of reviews I see listed (100) for this piece, I'm sure you have touched many. -Stan

Barbara, I'm glad you've remained strong and maintained a sense of humour about your ordeal. =D
If you die at 100 from a heart attack, you were cured of cancer. If you die at 100 from cancer, you were in remission.
This is what I call "circular talk" - no answers, just a lot of words. I guess they do this so as not to raise false hopes or get themselves sued for giving an incorrect answer. The uncertainty is always there.
I guess now I adjust to spending the rest of my life with the fear that someday cancer may rear its ugly head.
But you've come so far and you're still here. Like you say 115 is ahead of you. =D

Barbara, thanks for giving us an update. I'm glad you
rely on God to get you through the tough times. I like
your author notes about your oncologist. Attitude has a
lot to do with recovery.

I want to believe my friend Barbara Wilkey is cured for an infinity. And so I want to say 'Congratulations'. May you never have to look back on this tragic event. Stay healthy. God bless you always. Hugs, -Alicia

I was happy to hear there has been progress in your diagnosis of cancer. I like your attitude, especially the part about living to 115. I think the best thing you can do with these medical people is to show them. They don't appear to have any personality at all. Only hang around people with positive attitudes, watch as much comedy as you can, and LAUGH,Laugh, laugh! We all know that it does a body a good. Oh, and an apple a day, keeps the dr. away. I also understand a good diet of carrot juice is very beneficial, too. Bunny brand from CA is supposed to be best. One more thing, Essiac tea, supposed to be absolutely fantastic. Now that the chemo is over, maybe some of these things will keep it in check. Anyway, I am glad you are still here, writing and entertaining us all. God has something yet in store for you. I will keep praying for you. Deb :0)
