This is a lovely story but I'm not sure it is really appropriate for young children, i.e. cremation, the results of the stroke. Perhaps this could have been explained to Davey in a little gentler yet still remaining true to the facts. The dialogue rings true but leaves this reader wanting more description. Still a good story and the message is well received in the short length.

Hi Bev, what a lovely story my friend, I am going to read this to my own grandson, he just turned six. Was Michael and his grandpa the inspiration for the story? Regardless, a wonderful read, thank you my friend.

Hi, ameen. You words have my heart singing. So happy to hear that you liked my story which was inspired by the sad situation of my father's (Mike's grandfather) dementia. Writing this helped me to ease the pain of seeing my dad disappear a little each day. You have blessed me with kindness today, my friend. Thank you for your generosity! Warm regards, Bev

It's a nice story, though sad, because our loved ones are no longer with us physically, we feel your presence by receiving the warm memories and love they gave us with his teaching. Wonderful work, congratulations and good luck.

What a nice, sweet story that could be a young child's memory of a beloved grandfather. Although it has its sad moments, that is life, and you handled it very well. Deb :0)

Heartwarming story. I liked the special bond between granchild and his grandpa. It read very realistic from a child's point of view, simply and matter of factly told.

It's sometimes hard to get a short story to emote anything speacial to a reader. This story was sweet and serene even after the grandpa died. It was still a good feeling story which proved that loss, when leveled with love, are a beautiful thing. Great job and wonderful ending.

I enjoyed reading your short story. It was definitely from a child's perspective. I felt the heartache the little boy felt missing his grandpa.

This is a wonderful story, and it brought a tear to my eye, because I spent many many happy hours, when I was a child, fishing with my father. It brought back so many memories. You captured the emotions perfectly. Thanks so much.

Bev,
your story titled Fishin' Buddies' is splendidly written. Your art work is lovely. Excellent narrative, great characterization, good dialogue and very descriptive writing. In a minimum amount of words for a maximum effect you established a setting, conflict, and a resolution to your story. I like Grandpa and Davey. I could see them fishing together at Crystal lake. I like he tells his granddad "I'm not ever getting married. I don't even like girls." I was sadden when he recalls his grandfather death. I guess he started liking girls after all because I guess the person whispering in his ear is his significant other. What a moving story. I wish you good luck in the writing prompt. You did an excellent job writing this moving piece. Have a blessed day.
Melissa.

Dear Melissa, Thanks for your generous support for my writing today. My father is permanently in place in a nursing home so this was for him. He has dementia and won't ever read it. I hope on some deeper level, he'll be touched by all the positive and kind words everyone has been offering. I so appreciate your support and generosity, missy. Thank you very kindly! Bev
