This poem is exceptional. Raw, thought provoking, and beutifully written,I'm sure your Dad is walking through an even better harvest field now. Bless you, for conveying something so personal. Loved it.

Your quatrains have good abcb rhyme.

What a poignant wish for this man to have and what a dramatic story. This is an excellent story poem with a moving plot and main character and which sounds good when read aloud. Brooke

A lovely but sad story in a poem. The tie the farmer had with his land, which had been his whole life was so strong. He would know every inch of it, every hedgerow, every pasture, every animal - all indelibly part of him. The realization that he can no longer do everything that he used to, his husbandry grows weak and it grieves him to see it. I loved his last walk and his memories. He got his wish. Your dad may have died in a hospital room, but I'm certain his spirit is there walking the fields with you. xmouse

This was a very touching story and great tribute to your father. Though it filled my eyes with tears, I enjoyed reading it. I couldn't find a specific rhythm pattern, regardless, it is a beautiful, touching tribute. Very nice, shebecd

Thank you for your review. It's good to shed a few tears occasionally, if they are happy tears. As far as a rhythm pattern, this one came straight from my heart and everything else simply didn't matter. Have a great weekend my friend. Bill

That's exactly how I saw it too, Bill. I personally have a hard time when someone critiques my expression of feeling, I'm not sure I can ever get used too it! I loved yours, I actually printed it to show my friend. shebecd

This is a very moving poem that touched my heart. My father in law, as with my mother in law, both died at home in their eighties, as they wished to do.

Thank you for your review. It's wonderful that they both died at home, instead of some hospital or nursing home. Thanks my friend. Bill

'God Granted Him His Wish' is an exceptionally well-written and heart-wrenching piece. This talented poet captured the old farmer's final hours with skill and empathy. It was a privilege to read and review a poem of this quality.

I suppose there are worse ways to go. It seems as though the man in your story lived a full life and was ready to move on. Well expressed. Bravo

This is a lovely story. It is creative, clear and focused. The rhyme is also very good! However, the meter ( rhythm ) is inconsistent throughout the poem and hampers the smooth presentation of the poem. If you would care to even out the rough edges, I would be happy to reconsider my rating....Best wishes, Bo

Thanks anyway Bo. This poem has received (so far) 79 reviews.
9 were exceptional ratings, 68 were excellent ratings, and the last 2 were good ratings. It amazes me how differently people look at things. Thanks again my friend for your review and have a great day. Bill

No problem, Bill. We all have to choose what is most important to us, ratings or writing good poetry. Have you ever looked at the quality of some of the poems that get 6's? Much is of very poor quality. On this site you can buy ratings by offering viewers a lot of points. Some people actually spend real money to buy points they can then offer to others to view their poems. Naturally people are not going to kill the goose that lays the golden egg. ..The decision is of course yours. I choose to write good poetry..Best wishes, Bo

It have discovered in the last few years that most of the members on this site, write poetry only as a past time. The ranking and ratings do not mean that much. These are things that come automatically, according to the amount of activity you produce. The more poems you post and the more reviews you write, your rankings continue to climb, regardless, whether they are good or exceptional. If you post 2 poems per day and write about 20 reviews per day, over a short period of time, your rankings in both categories will be in the Top 10. Also, it really doesn't matter about the quality of your writings, it's based solely on the amount of activity you have. This past year, I saw several writers move up to the top 10 rankings and in my opinion, it was strictly from the amount of posted work and nothing to do with the quality of that work. Anyway, I guess we could ramble on and on about different things pertaining to this site. It was good talking to you Bo. I have a brother we call Bo (short for Bobby). Have a great weekend. Bill
