I got chills reading this. The team of paranormal investigators sound like an interesting group of individuals even with this brief introduction to them. I saw the chapter you have posted, but I like to start at the beginning.
Engaging characters, good dialog, excellent descriptions and expert story telling grab the reader's attention. Well done, Bev.

Hi, Debi.
Wow, thank you so much for taking time to go back to the beginning and read this chapter. I really
appreciate your support and generosity! In editing for the re-post, I'm finding so much of our class
chats and reading coming into play. It's exciting to have a more educated angle to work from.
Hope you have a great weekend, my friend.
:) Bev

I have gone back to read chapt. 1. I don't know why I haven't receive the rest of your work? "Her head fell back, and her final sound was a death rattle." Talk about painting painful pictures. I love Regency drama. I think you are on a winner this time. Hurrah!

Thank you for your very kind remarks and encouragement, Diny. I appreciate your insights and your generous review. Taking classes has definitely taught me a lot about better writing. I read a lot of books on the subject, including the magazine, Writer's Digest, and find all invaluable. Getting reviews on the this site has been so very helpful as well.
I like that: Write On. The same to you.

After reading this second chapter, I had to come back and read the first one. I'm enjoying this story a lot! I love the effortless conversation between characters sprinkled with humor, too.

Bev, this is a great story. My son and a friend stayed in a haunted house and had some pretty freaky experiences. My house is supposed to be haunted--most of the realtors were afraid to show it. If there are spirits here, they leave me alone. Sometimes it does sound like there are some footsteps on the stairway. You are a very good writer, but there is always more to learn, Take care, my friend~Debbie

Bev,
I am sure going to be a follower of this one, maybe just a bit slower on responding. Have been really busy. What an effective opening, it grabbed my attention from the opening paragraph and held it throughout. You have laid the foundation, built the suspense, while whetting the readers appetite for more.

Charles is a devilish man. The way he tortures Margarethe to try to get information about his wife's meeting with her lover is very vividly described. She does give a bit away about the lakehouse before she dies. Charles likes to put on a very polite, worldly appearance to the public, but that's a pretense. You do a fine job of transitioning from 1922 to 2010. With its dark history, the Bellingham estate should be just the place to interest the paranormal team. Mia has already picked up on the specter of a woman who seems to be wanting her help. This sets the stage for spooky developments as the team visits the house. judi

Judi, thank you very much. I'm really glad you enjoyed the first chapter. The paranormal is endlessly fascinating to me. I recently read a book about a true haunting and when I couldn't put it down, I realized it's just something I gravitate toward.
I really appreciate the generous and encouraging review, Judi.

Hi, Bev. You are so welcome. I've seem a few movies that deal with paranormal investigations, but haven't read any books on the subject. You're making it sound so spooky. judi

I've read a lot and watch all the shows. Plus I've had, unfortunately, my own experience as a child and on into adulthood. I think that's why I keep trying to get it figured out.

Beautiful writing mixed inside a masterful plot that threads through a 21st adventure. The characters from 1922 and the present are richly interesting, especially Charles Bellingham. His personality, situation and actions are not dragged out; the reader immediately gets into the action right away.
An engrossing tale with a rapid pace. I can't wait to read more.
