John,
I read this yesterday and it inspired me to pull out an old poem I wrote six months ago about this kind of thing. I added to the poem and posted it. I agree it's ludicrous how many millions are spent on campaigns. Your essay hits the nail on the head. Your narrative is excellent. It's disgusting all the millions are flushed down the toilet just so some rich person can become an congressman or congresswoman. I agree they are not our peers and they shouldn't represent us. Wonderful rant style essay.
Melissa.

Great job on this one John and I totally agree...we had an election here a month or so back and during the campaign, I think they spent more time slinging shit at the opposition than actually promoting what they were going to do...in the end a lot of people didn't want either party voted in...so really the new prime minister Julia Gillard is just the one we dislike the least...pretty bad when you have to choose someone to lead your country that you don't necessary like or believe in...but they are just that little bit more tolerable than the other one you didn't vote for.
Excellent short write, succinct and to the point and I enjoyed immensely.
Gosh you are soooooooooooo versatile.
Cheers your friend closet xoxo

Good job at stating your view and you are very correct that the money could have been better spent.

However, now it is all done and seeing the results: Many, if not most of the unemployed, will become homeless. And the Republican House and Democratic Senate will accomplish almost nothing.

My husbadn chewed me out for not voting yesterday. To be honest I saw no reason to vote. I did vote in the last presidential election, because there were some people I wanted to vote for, locally. Unfortunately, I upset my husband with my vote for that election too. I wrote in my cat for president. I could not vote for either candidate. I really don't care for politics. I am sure my kitty could run a cheap compaign.

Bravo, sir! Have you considered submitting this to your local newspaper? It seems the actions of our candidates have been too long ignored or swallowed up in the mud they sling during their campaigns. And the $$$? I have wondered for years where all this money comes from and if it is ever all accounted for.

This line should be the American voters' slogan:

They are not our peers, so why should they represent us?

Good rant.

I really agree with your essay. The real people live in such a different world than those who would seek to govern. This is a well written piece and it speaks volumes.

I am surprise you haven't ask yourself about how spending seven, eight, or nine figures to win a six figure income will pay off in the long run.

John, this is an excellent rant, and your sentiments are shared by millions. I think power is like a drug, and some of those nut jobs are not able to kick the habit. It should be very interesting to watch the newly elected House members. Good job!

Ja and I think the real message they sending is that the Ametrican public is stupid and willing to put up with anything. What can you expect in a two paerty system where you can only choose from twittle-dee, or twittle-dum. Good piece and sadly very true.

John,

You hit the situation square in the eyes..Sitting at the table this morning, discussing elections, etc. I said about the same thing..What a crime that all this money (the woman in California spent enough to feed and house half the homeless I bet. The only one gaining from all the mudslinging ads was advertisiers..the television, radio and printers...Somethings totally wrong with our system..You should send this on to WAshington..a copy to all of the "newly" elected congressman who say they are there for change.. The only change they want is the $$$ in their pocket.

Smiles, Carol
