Goose bumps. The fact that this is a first hand account of a bloody battle gives it a value few fictional treatises can achieve. On the other hand, the writing style is basic. And if the story is about the valor of the two soldiers, the emphasis is on the other plot... that of the helplessness of the soldiers like you trapped in the ambush.

Goose bumps. The fact that this is a first hand account of a bloody battle gives it a value few fictional treatises can achieve. On the other hand, the writing style is basic. And if the story is about the valor of the two soldiers, the emphasis is on the other plot... that of the helplessness of the soldiers like you trapped in the ambush.

Thank you for your review and comments for the story, prhymer. I had hoped to protray with this story that the valor of that particular battle was shared by every soldier who was at Ia Drang...the pilots of course, but also the author who kept his promise to not leave a friend alone on the field. I'm so sad that didn't come across. Thank you.

So I'm assuming by you saying this is "based" on a real battle that this isn't your personal experience? I'm amazed- I can't believe you weren't writing this from your own experience- this is a wonderful story about rescue- truly wonderful and inspiring- nicely done!
