This is a very enjoyable poem--touching (made me smile) and descriptive of a comforting toy that came about during a time of fear and need--and still serves its purpose today.

Hi Elaine,
I enjoyed your poem very much. I see you wrote it way back on August 3rd of 2009. (I was only 58 years old then, and not retired yet!) But it fits so well in these Covid-Schmovid Days. Originally "Soft, comforting and warm,
a primate born of the Great Depression", I think the poem could fit even better today. We need something, anything, that "eases those feelings
of despair and stress".
I have an 8 year old granddaughter (Alyssa) who would love one of these cuddly monkeys to join the troop on her bed... Toopy and friends. And I have another granddaughter (Isla) who is just 22 months old and clutches her little "Taggy". She'd love one of these soft, smiling monkeys "Dwelling in my home,
during good, bad and ugly times,
grinning through it all.
A soft toy filled
with love,
living through the ages."
It's good to have a friend who smiles, no matter what.
Nicely penned! You should re-post this one.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Excellent. My mother used to make sock monkeys for all of us twelve of us kids. We loved them and I still have one today. In later years she crocheted toy animals for us, I have a rabbit and a pig that she made. They are priceless. Your writing brought back memories. Thank you for sharing this with us.

A great tribute to the things we love and get comfort from, beautiful to some but not all.

What a warm poem. I think all 14 of my grandkids have their own sock monkey and I'm sure a couple are still somewhere in our house. This was a simple, delightful little poem to so many children of all ages. Thanks for sharing

You did a great job on this poem. I just think that your words did not rhyme very much. I love the name of the poem though, you did great except for the rhyming.
