Thanks, adewpearl for this uplifting, meaningful poem. I was doing a little reviewing to earn a few honest member dollars, every thing was dark, a sea of depression,the air filled with the bane of bitterness, a quagmire of gloom and doom, a graveyard of lost hopes, well you get the picture, and then along came "The Legend of the Dogwood," and it was like a lifeline drawing me back from committing intoxication. I have a small book, describing the dogwood tree in the Bible. This poem is a perfectly beautiful expression of the written words. Adewpearl, a lovely name, a wonderful writer, this poem brought me to tears...not tears of sadness...so much as tears of hope. We have many small dogwoods around our home, and each is a cherished tree, that we will never cut down. Thank you for this poem.

needless to say this poem is awesome. what a great perspective you offer from the tree's point of view and wonderful wording. i love the final stanza; superb finale! truly you are a poet amongst the highest order in that you have wonderful substance to a well written, thought provoking, contemplative, profound, creative and beautifully flowing poem. excellent work man! beyond a shade of doubt was a nice move to avoid cliche, and you even give the tree a good character. super job.

This is really beautiful. I had not heard this legend before, and I love the way you turned it into a thought-provoking poem.
I have always admired dogwood trees and their blossoms, but now I will look at them with enlightened eyes and increased awareness.

Six for the story and the notes. I love flowers, flowering bushes, and flowering trees---the dogwood is one of my favorites. I will add, that your "poemiterazation" of the story is enjoyable and well done.

I have never heard this legend. We have a Dogwood tree that my boys gave Kell for Father's Day soon after we were married 25 years ago. It is our favorite tree, planted in just the right spot for us to gaze upon it from our swing each twilight. I'll never quite view it the same again. Just a lovely piece of writing Brooke.

Judian, thank you - I live near Valley Forge National Park, that each year has a dogwood festival in May. I learned about the legend when I was a child from attending this festival. I really appreciate your lovely comments, Brooke
