You got married in the exact same month I did
Richard, at least, had great taste in music - though it is never a good idea for one member of a couple to have her interests driven back by the partner's interests - and not opening up - never a good idea

Thank you for your king review and high rating. To be fair, Richard never insisted I only follow his lead...It was my choice...a way to change my life....not necessrily the best choice.

I found your story to be very interesting
perhaps because I can relate to it in a
different sort of way. Not in the way to
lose yourself as you write about but the
silence over honesty. I've lived this and now
it is too late to do the right thing.

Why do I not expect the torment to totally disappear. Nothing does unless you finally confront it. I have learned that from experience. And, my experiences are nothing compared to yours. Very well written, I found no errors.

An interesting bio continues written in simple language and poignant. The thing that bothered me became your complete surrender to Richard's likes ... That means loss of some freedom and his full control.
Just a few suggestions:
1. The world, and what it offered, (was still) [remained]
foreign territory to me.
2. Richard always wore blue (jean)[jeans]
3. Valerie (was gone) [disappeared] and in her place[,]
(was) a devoted wife,
Just tried to cut out a couple of 'was' out.
