I enjoyed reading this post about a 1960s family music band. I was so little when the Partridge family show came out that I could rarely comprehend all the episode plots. So thank you for sharing some interesting music history here, and I went and looked up two songs to see what they were. I also kept thinking 'Cowsill' must be related to the plant 'cowslip,' but it's not.

Well, Harry, I must commend you on ruining my night after just the first paragraph... Don't worry, this isn't a bad thing in terms of your piece. It's just 1:30 am here in the UK, and now my foot is tapping and I'm humming 'Downtown.' So, well done, I guess. I'll have to do some more reviewing until I get it out of my system lol. I have to be honest, I've never heard of the Cowsills, though I am familiar with the Partridge Family. I'm a child of the '70s, so this is perhaps why. Interesting read nonetheless, and every '70s child knows they missed out by a decade. We had to tolerate the Osmands instead, haha. Good read.

Thank you so much for sharing about one of my favorite groups from the 60's. I didn't know much of what you wrote on, so learning more was wonderful!!
Thank you for researching where they are now and what happened to some of the members. So many died young, how sad!!
I'm glad to know they are on tour again, or at least performing. I'll look into it.
Take care,
Rhonda

Well, thanks again Rhonda for the great review and kind words. And yes, most of them did die young...
-
That's so strange. What a talented family.
-
Yes, they really were...

Nicely written and entertaining essay. Informative too. I can tell you did your research. As a big 60's music fan, I'd of course heard of the Cowsills, but I had no idea they were a family band. The short bios in the end were a nice touch. Too bad so many died young. That seems to be a pattern for many 60's musicians.

Now, thank you so much.for sharing this with us. Of course, I remember Petula Clarks, Downtown. I even had the record. But you won't believe that I don't recall the Cowsills'. I'm not sure I've ever heard of them I will look them up when I've send this. Maybe they never made a name in Denmark back then. Ulla:)))

Hi Harry,
A nice informative piece of writing. I've never heard of the Cowsills, I don't think they made it big in the UK, but I always like to learn new things.
I like that you've blended together interesting and evidently well researched info with your own experience of the time.
Families creating pop groups was quite a trend during that era, there were quite a few - it would be an interesting social study to research the reasons as to why that didn't continue.

I loved the cowsills too. I had their albums. I loved songs I could sing to. Who came first? The Osmonds or the Cowsills? The Cowsills were more talented but the Osmonds were managed way better. Good Writing. Karen

The Cowsills were first. And Donny Osmond had "Puppy Love" I hated that song lol!
-
I hated that song too. As if our loves weren't every bit as important and tender. When asked I could easily come up with songs from the Cowsills, but, Offhand, I could not name one of the Osmonds. Oh wait! That she's country he's rock and roll one, because it was so awful. LOL Karen
-
And they called it PUPPY LOVE UGGGGH lol!!!
-
It is hard having excellent taste isn't it? :-)
-
Lol! Why yes it is...
-
Come on, are you gonna write about Dark Shadows? Pretty Please. Karen
-
I can barely remember it. But it was good!!!
-
Okay, how about Mel blanc who did most of the voices for looney tunes? Or the Flintstones who was fashioned after the Honeymooners. :-)
-
Well, I was thinking about Huckleberry Hound. Remember him, the blue dog who always hit his thumb with a hammer???

I remember the Cowsills' music but didn't know a lot of things that you wrote about in this essay. I certainly didn't know the Partridge Family was based on them. Great job educating us!

Thank you for reminding me of the Cowsills. I always enjoyed their music, thogh I never bought any of their records.
This was my favorite song from The Cowsills,... This begins a new paragraph, so I look for what 'this' song is, but don't see it. If referring to the song of the previous paragraph, it would be better to repeat it.
Best wishes.
