Your story is extremely well-written -- best of luck with the judges! I have one, small suggestion -- tell the reader who these are: "I found out he was spending our money on cam girls." Maybe it's just me, but I don't know who "cam girls" are.

You'd be surprised how similar many other peoples' lives are to yours. Although, I'm sure you'd find it hard to believe. I was to get the max in social security until my second broken neck. After the 9 years it took to get functional, I was no longer eligible for the social security I'd paid in my whole life. They said I could get about $500/month from SSI for disability. Luckily I wasn't broke yet, and told them to hang it in their ear. Not really, I said much worse, and walked out. There should be organizations that can help, but I wouldn't know of any myself. I'm considering a blue tarp, a couple blankets, and a cardboard box. Hope you find the help you need!

Especially when we find ourselves hurt (financially and spiritually by family and those who we considered close), it's tough to dig out the dirt when it's falling in faster than we can toss it out. I was aware of some of the problems you've mentioned here. I think you've made a step in the right direction by mentioning your need. It sounds like you may have gotten a few ideas that you could use.
In all honesty, I don't think it's wise to become political when you have such needs as a place to stay and food to eat. I'm very conservative and yet I've been fairly generous to those in need. When I give to a food bank or a place like Samaritan's Purse, I have no control who receives the benefit of my money. I believe it's people in need though, and regardless of their political beliefs they are still people, and I desire to help them.
I recall that my daughter used to do medical transcription. I think you have to be able to type fairly fast in order to make any money, but you can do it all on your computer from home.
I'm sure that Plano Texas must have a Salvation Army either there or close by. They are in the business of helping people in need. I believe if you contacted them, they would not only help you, but would possibly be able to direct you towards the right agencies who could further assist you.
I see that a number of people have offered to pray for you. I pray for you almost every night, although now I have a more knowledgeable way to pray for you. I need to ask though, do you pray gal? If not, you might be surprised at the answers you might get. While it may not appear to be the case, God loves you a lot. In Jeremiah 29:11 He says-"for I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, and not to harm you. Plans to give you a future and a hope." It sure doesn't seem that way right now does it? Nonetheless, sometimes we have to get to the end of ourselves before we can be in a position that God will step in. I'm not trying to be religious or judgemental here gal. I'm drawing on some of my own experiences in life.
I subscribe( for free online) to The Dollar Stretcher. The folks who put it out have all kinds of ideas for saving and even making money. All the way from dozens of uses for vinegar to ways to make your own bath soap. They often offer suggestions for jobs for seniors too if I recall correctly. I hope you'll check them out.

If I could suggest one last thing gal, which of course won't make any sense to someone who is barely eking out a living, but have you considered giving a tithe back to God? Again, I'm going to sound religious, which I'm really not. I don't like religious people. However, in the book of Malachi, God asks the people of Israel, " Will a man cheat God?" He goes on to tell them that they have not been tithing, and thus have lost their crops, suffered with all kinds of problems and so on. It's the only place in the bible where God tells people to test Him. He tells them to bring the full tithe into the house of God and see if He won't bless them abundantly-pressed down, shaken and overflowing. I would suggest that given your situation gal, it would be worth a try. I'm willing to send you some money that you can pay your tithe with my friend, just to prove what He has established. Meanwhile, I'll continue to pray for you. The way you're living isn't what God has in mind for you.

Whenever I had more money then I needed I donated. When I moved I donated a lot of my things. I am donating some more. I give whatever I have loose in my change purse to places that ask for it. I am grateful for your time spent on my behalf. I have faith I will be okay. Karen

I've been on the short end a time or two. Check with social services to find out about organizations that aren't government run. Check out churches. Usually they have things to offer. I'm sorry you are going through this. But good that you are seeking advice and counsel.
