Hi Bill,
You did a fine job with this one, my friend. I really enjoyed it, and the artwork, too! Look at all those smiles.
Ah, relatives. What a bunch, eh? My uncles and aunts are all gone, and I rarely see my brother and sister, or cousins for that matter. I've lost 2 cousins on my father's side. But not one on my mother's side. We're getting up there, though. There are seven of us now in our 70's, me being the oldest of the lot at 74. (My brother passed away from complications of Alzheimer's in July of 2020 at 60 years of age.)
When we disarm ourselves (at a family reunion, for example), it literally means that the very nature, character, and personality of our relatives makes us drop our weapons! We see them from a different angle, if only for a few hours. We might come away with new respect for them (or a few of them, at least). But it has to come from us. We have the power to extend an olive branch and say, "I refuse to fight". Better to make peace, calm tempers, and soothe spirits. This is what is needed over there in the Middle East. Maybe even right here in the United States and Canada with all this talk from your new President of tariff threats at the border. We are neighbors, for Pete's sake! We need to cooperate, join hands and walk through the doors of love and compassion together.
Nicely penned, Bill! I wish you "Good Luck!" in the contest. This should be a contender.
Cheers,
Kimbob

Thank you, Kimbob. I have relatives on my wife's side who would charm a bee out of honey, and ones on my family's side who would cause trees to uproot and move away.

This one's very clever because it can be taken two ways: Either: your relatives are disarming, positive people, or they disarm people of all their positive attributes. This is absolutely perfect. I have to hand it to you, Bill! VERY, very good work here! xoxo

Great. I had forgotten somewhat how much my relatives care about me. That is until the recent firestorm that has erupted here in Southern California. I have enjoyed a rash of concerned phone call from various relative all expressing concern about my welfare.

Nice to know they're there.

Absolutely. And I know a big old macho guy like you would never admit it, I know that you are also concerned about your boy. Am I right or am I right?
-
I hope you're safe and in good spirits.

Totally, I do not even smell like smoke. Fortunately and happily we are not that close to danger yet. Thanks for asking.

this is different than the Essence poem I saw. What are the rules for this one please? Good job on your entry for the two line poem contest. Good luck.

Here's the example:
Mysterious night dream
Elicits a fright scream
First line center words rhyme with second line center and both end rhymes sound alike.

thanks much

Excellent artwork choice. Syllable count in both lines is the required six. I like the charming and disarming rhyme. Not sure about positives and relatives rhyme. Best of luck in the contest. judi

It can often be that many of our relatives are charming, but it also can be that they are not so charming sometimes and you have to deal with the problems of living with them. Patricia.

I have quite a few of these myself. But we love them. What can we do? They're family. Wonderful poem, my friend.
Sending you my best today as always, and my best wishes for the upcoming contest.
