"Reagan's enduring presidency upends
blue legislatures, instills conservatism,
and neutralizes Soviets" - So what happened to it? Conservatism used to mean lower deficits and vigilance against Russian aggression.
"Unregulated banking loosens investment
capital. Amiable nonpartisanship
spurs robust energy policies." - Which directly caused the 2008 crash.
"Politicians
universally berate legalized injustice." - I'm not seeing anything like this.
More, but that's enough.
Thanks for posting. Good luck in the contest.

This is an interesting portrait of the Reagan years, told in a flat delivery, non judgmental, and you kind of lay out these reminiscences and in these jumbled images and let us make up our own minds. There's threads of religious faith in these political doctrines, which eerily echo in our own times of hyperpolarization. It brought back memories for me, of Iran contra, the fall of communism, the moral majority, the booming economy. There were good things and bad things about Reagan, as there are with all people, but all things being considered equal, I think he was the best president in my lifetime. He was in some ways a product of the Bicentennial patriotic wind that blew through America after all the Vietnam War chaos and soul searching, but he articulated it well. I'll never forget his speech in front of the Berlin Wall. estory

A political poem: So clever, Sophisticated, and Smart. Love your creativity, I don't think, I've ever read a political poem before. This piece is entertaining and serious at the same time. Great flow, and not too complicated to understand. Thank you! For sharing this piece. And good luck, in the contest.

Thanks very much! I write a TON of political poems and this is one of the few that I tried to write in a balanced sort of a way, and it took quite a while to construct. 🦍

Mystery poet, a wonderfully detailed poem of the Reagan years in 2D. I liked Ronald Reagan -- a lot. Jimmy Carter was a putz. What an embarrassment in the hall of presidents. I remember the fuel crisis of the early 70s under Nixon, and as history shows us, we tended to panic and grasp the polar opposite in the voting booth. Jimmy Carter made me a republican -- so I will thank him for that. I've never voted for a democrat since Ronald Reagan ushed in conservatism.

Sending along my very best today as always, and my best wishes in the contest.
Sally :))

Thanks very much Sally. I can see how people would vote for Kennedy or maybe Bill Clinton but I can't imagine voting for a modern-day Democrat either : )

Ciao poet , you now have three votes.

I didn't know much about Reagan besides the fact he was shot and survived.. so on first read I was somewhat lost.

Luckily I noticed some words were underlined, I pressed and a link popped up.

Lots of insight.. it's not an easy read but some things sank in.

I did know about Conan the Barbarian.

I just saw recently the film on Robert E. Howard the author on you tube.

Starring Vincent D' Onofrio and ReneeZellweger.

Howard committed suicide at age 30. Great film.

Wow I did not know that about the author! What a shame. Is the film you mentioned called The Whole Wide World (1996)?

I figured after my previous 2D acrostic on Democrats I should do one on Republicans. Maybe I should do communists and libertarians next, since I clearly have a political theme going for these particular types of works. Thanks a bunch and let me know about that film!

Yes, that is the film. I liked it. Here is the film.

I would prefer you choose a theme like freedom, music/artists, animals, bucket list; hobbies
I think these would engage members more.

    Enjoy !

I watched this film in its entirety today. It was excellently cast.

Yeah, particularly the last few months. I have been on a vendetta to show that there is no good taste without bad taste. To the end I have been exercising free speech largely for my own amusement. Writing outrageous content is how I warm up for the serious stuff, to avoid the tendency of writing cliche or sentimental things. I appreciate your thoughts on this though and you may see some different things coming soon. I did a serious short the other day on the Christmas star. It still barely got any votes. 🦍

Vincent D'Onofrio is a favourite of mine..

    Loved him in Criminal Intent.

I love sci-fi but not action-packed scenes like space battles.

    I prefer human drama.

    Glad you enjoyed the film.

I missed voting in a few contests last week. Too many Baby Jesus-themed competitions.

I like your serious stuff. (biggrin)

Regardless if your personal politics there are several things going on in this well/constructed Acrostic.

(Picture is great, by the way)

What a fun format and interesting read.
Thanks!!!

Thanks Douglas! Gabby AI has made me some of the best of all the controversial pics. There are 5-6 main services I use but Gabby only makes me one pic a day without an account, so I don't use it much. The format is quite challenging and you're more than welcome to join the next 2D acrostic contest. I will probably host the next one sometime from March to May next year. 🦍

A time when Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher ruled and peace reigned as a result of good organisation. Reagan did ruffle Soviet feathers during one speech which was inflammatory, but for the most part this was a good period in history. I enjoyed your well informed poem, love Dolly x x x

I'm glad you took the trouble to learn about this unique and magical alliance between Reagan and Thatcher, they were happy times. Margaret Thatcher was the best Prime Minister we ever had, love Dolly x x x

I agree! I was arguing on the school bus against the "Jellybean Loving Grandpa." I loved Jimmy Carter (still do) and I was a new teen who was devastating when Reagan won. Much that we see destroying Democracy now, began with him. Extraordinary work! Alex

How interesting, both our main political parties tend to the middle, with one leaning slightly left and the other slightly right, they can be a little bit like Bib and Bob, I find American politics quite startling actually, as if they are bitter enemies. I love this style, with those periods standing our, well done, good luck, blessings Roy

You've done an excellent job with this 2D acrostic poem. You make the Republicans out to be all good as if they can do no wrong. I can hardly remember a time when they have been for the profit of the rich instead of helping the poor and needy. The looming elephant can do no wrong and I don't believe that for a second. Both parties have flaws and faults of their own and both can be irresponsible when it comes to war and the environment.
