I hate to say it, but I don't have a lot of faith in the medical community. Half the time they've already decided your diagnosis five minutes into your appointment. You are one lucky lady that you escaped any permanent damage. Gretchen

Oh Gretchen, then you don't want to hear that this is the hospital that most trauma patients are taken to. It is called North Memorial Hospital and Trauma Center. go figure, huh?? When my daughter, Bridget was little she had a bike accident where she hit a rock and her head hit another one. Our local hospital couldn't handle her fractured skull so they flew her to North Memorial. I am not kidding!! LOL and that is why they wanted me to have my surgeries there

I thank you so very much for the kindest and compassionate words for my story. I am hoping that something good has come from it if maybe they stopped taking meds away from people without their knowledge. I appreciate you so very much, my dear friend. Love, Debi

I can understand you didn't write about this earlier. The further you get from such a traumatic event, the easier it is to talk about without feeling a little panicky. Nothing good could be said about the nurse who told you to just relax. Restless leg is a physical problem that can't be cured with suggestions to calm down. It is a good thing your son demanded to talk to your next surgeon.

You are very brave to share all of that with us. A lot of us have trouble sharing our trials. But because of your story, next time I am going to the hospital, I have added items to my check list for my sister. She will not let errors go unnoticed. My others surgeries I faced basically on my own when I was an adult.
My family thought since I was smarter than the average bear, and strong of faith and will, that I did not need anyone. I am extremely happy you have a good network of warriors for Debbie. We all keep praying for you. Maybe all your troubles be little ones. I love that old Irish saying.

I guess they would have the most experience fixing bones and so forth. I hope everything works out as you wish it too. Karen

This is a well-written survival story. It's distressing that nobody listened to you, and they didn't tell you they took you off the restless leg meds. A small fix: 'high doses of OxyContin...to (wean) off.' I'm glad your son insisted he speak with the doctor before your second surgery. Jesus met you at your time of need, and gave you peace. Blessings. Carol

LOL, Carol, you can tell I don't use the word wean too often. Haha. I know better than that. But I thank you for pointing it out to me. LOL

I thank you so very much for the kindest and compassionate words for my story. I am hoping that something good has come from it and they will listen, like you said and if maybe they stopped taking meds away from people without their knowledge. I appreciate your generous six stars and you so very much, my dear friend. Love, Debi

Lady you have been through the ringer! I am appalled that the nurse did not notify the doctor about your restless leg issue. And the doctors are always there in the hospital! I have to contact doctors and nurse practitioners on an Ipad on the weekends I work. It wasn't your time to leave this earth yet and I am glad Jesus came through. Best wishes regarding all your health issues. This story is important for all to read and it also has some important points. we definitely need good communication with our healthcare providers.

Well, I certainly need to go back and read some more chapters! This one caught my attention and my interest! I saw not problems in any grammatical sense, no typos, no where you left me hanging. I enjoyed the chapter. ann

Hi Ann, this is actually a book that Rhonda started called I survived. It is all true stories and as much as I could probably make a whole book of my own, I just joined this multi author book.
But I thank you so very much for the kindest and compassionate words for my story. I am hoping that something good has come from it, if maybe they stopped taking meds away from people without their knowledge. I appreciate your generous six stars and you so very much, my dear friend. Love, Debi

Oh wow, Debi, what an ordeal!!! I can't believe you were ignored like that!! That's terrible, but I do know it happens!! I was lucky with Wayne that he had the best care possible, but laziness occurs on all jobs. In healthcare, it can cost lives. In this cause, yours!

You story was very well written and engaging. You held me on the edge of my chair the entire time. I'm sure it was a good feeling having your son present and in the face of your next surgery team!! You go son!!

Much love,
Rhonda

Oh my goodness Debi, this is a very scary story and you almost lost your life! How very tragic that the nurses did not take you seriously when you said something was wrong. When we go into hospital we are at the mercy of the doctors and nurses and we pray they know what they are doing.

Situations like the one you describe here make me very nervous about any operations. A well written tale Debi and thank you for sharing your experience with us, I am glad you are much better now after your surgeries, love Dolly x x x
