Pam, I like the philosophical aspects of this poem. Sometimes, it helps being the last to jump in a situation that is sure to kill us. Being the last would definitely give us more time to learn how to avoid suffering from lying at the bottom of the heap (i.e., if we are alive). We would then have the satisfaction of lying on top of the garbage heap. =) I see you have written this one in AABB style. Well written.

It is not completely different a life cycle from many living organisms from birth to aging to returning to the earth we are living in. Very enjoyable poem to read and rate Thank you for Sharing your poem with us

This is brilliantly crafted, my friend. What an excellent take on the fall of a leaf, taking pride in being the first to fall. This is beautiful, yet sad. Thank you for sharing.
God bless,
Steve

I love this one. Bringing a leaf to life makes for the a good cute poem, with a sense of adventure as well. There is nothing bad I can say about this poem. However there is some tiny thing that my eyes can't miss for some reason. There is an extra space in the line "The rusts and yellows join the pile." between the word rusts and and. That is all my friend great work, it's the best poem I have read on here today I really enjoyed it.

Thought-provoking! When it comes to the half-witted race of being first, we tend to forget success soon withers, and therefore the pride- lovely thought to be shared through a poem! I particularly like your footnotes which with utter simplicity capture the essence of the poem that is nature being the first teacher of philosophy! Thank you so much for sharing

Your poem really captures the leaf's journey from excitement to acceptance with a warm, personal touch. The way you describe the leaf's pride and eventual realization is both vivid and touching.

It brings a fresh perspective on something as simple as a falling leaf. I could definitely use some fall weather now. Great job!

This was such a wonderful story of wanting something in the future and not enjoying the present. The leaf was joyous until he realized, maybe it happened too quickly. The poem was wonderfully written and read smoothly. No criticism from me. Gretchen

This poem, The First Falling Leaf, presented with seven AABB-rhymed quaterns and a couplet, sing the last sad song of the dying leaf. Like a life story, it had its moment and the fling at the end of autumn. the end is, unfortunately, the end.

I just read your other post and now come to this personification of the falling of leaves upon Autumn's arrival. This was expertly thought out and written. It deserves, also, more than the five I currently have.

And so it is for each of us...

Such depth here... Poignant and bittersweet!

A metaphorical tour of force.

First leave or last, we all have our journey.

What a clever approach to life and death!
