Thanks so much for the information and we all agree with you about how despicable scammers are. It doesn't reflect on the intelligence of the scammed as they are very convincing as we learned from Jay Squires. Recently, Liz O'Neill was scammed by an editor posing with an email address from Simon and Shuster. We really need to be on alert at all times.

This is an excellent rundown on the many scams that exist out there and the shocking thought of how many people fall for the ploys to rid them of their money.

Thanks for researching this. I've always known the number was high, but WOW, 10 Billion is a lot of pain to accept. Your piece provides some good information and caution for people who may encounter these types of scams in the future.

I almost fell for one from the FBI who claimed my bank account was being accessed by a bank employee and they needed my help catching the thief. After four hours of working on me, I nearly made the mistake of my life.

Good work Brett. My ex husband used my computer and ever since I have been getting slammed with ads for me growing the biggest penis ever. Since I am from Texas I have heard those statements from menfolk in person several times before. I have unsubscribed until my fingers almost fall off, they just come back under another name. Any ideas? Karen

Hello Brett,
so, I take it you don't like scammers? So far I've been able to avoid them. I've had someone who claimed to be from Amazon contact me saying my account was closed, and I think my wife has been contacted by someone with a phone number we didn't know, but thus far we've gotten off OK. In so many instances, I think people fall for something thinking that they're going to get something for nothing. It just doesn't work. Thanks for doing your due diligence and keeping us informed. You're performing a public service.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Oh yes, there are a phenomenal amount of weird and wonderful ways that criminals use their terrific expertise in ripping people off, and they keep coming up with more and more, judging the comprehensive line up that you've arrayed here, well done, blessings Roy

Thanks, Brett, for all the invaluable information on government scammers and how to avoid their pleas for money and donations, etcetera. I hear you! They bothered me night and day with their calls for money and I learned fast not to give out any personal information unless I called them and I knew they were legitimate.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This was a very helpful post. I remember checking my messages once and there was a message from the tax department. I had twenty four hours to send money for my back taxes. It did scare me. Then I was checking Facebook and several people were complaining of the same thing. The police answered by saying it was scam. Always better to wait and think before you act. Gretchen

Thank you for this posting - which is just as relevant in Australia. Excellent warning tips as well. Last night I watched a documentary about an extremely cunning conman who had all sorts of complex and elaborate schemes to scam people of their hard-earned income, their retirement funds, and he was a narcissistic liar- but very charismatic and believable. He made millions from his schemes.
