It sounds like both you and Sandy are probably normal as far as todays' marriages go, and I include myself there, too.
Yall have a special friendship, though- very strong and lasting, and that's wonderful. Both of you had hardships, and I'm glad you found happiness. I think women need a best friend. Mine is my sister though she lives in SC and I, in TX.
Congratulations on All Time Best!

Thank you. Sandy is still my best friend. We don't see one another as often as we could, but we often talk on the phone.

I find it so amazing how two close friends can lead such different lives. I too had a very best friend all through school and our lives ended up so different... But that is what life is all about... right?

Thank you. Yes, life is about to each their own. Sandy and I lived such different lives, but I will forever care for her.

What a lovely, but very sad story. That Sandy has you to be there for her, is wonderful. Sisters don't have to be blood relations, sometimes our best forever friends are much better. It's sad that Sandy never found her prince, or, perhaps she did but he died. You found yours in the form of a farmer, they don't always wear crowns and live in castles, but it doesn't make them any less a prince when you love them. Well done, and good luck in the contest. :) Sandra xx

Thank you. I think Sandy is as happy as she ever will be. She seems content living with her children in her senior years. I do envy her the children. My son was killed in a tragic accident when he was sixteen.

Hi Author,
expectations set us up for unrealistic goals, and I fear that even if or when we may have thought our dreams had come true, the fairytale met, that there are conditions and covenants fading the dream regardless. The nature of expectation is setting oneself up for disappointment.

Life is full of ups and downs as you have so wonderfully penned(or typed.) I am happy you and Sandy have been in each others life, connection that run the course of our existence is a precious thing.

I enjoyed reading your story and I wish you all the very best in this contest fine Author.

With our thoughts we create...
life-long bonds.

Kind regards,
James.

Thank you. Our lives turned out so very different, but I will care for Sandy forever. One never really knows where fate will take us.

A strange tale to submit regarding "friends," but it is what it is or was.
My dad defined a friend as someone who would die for you, otherwise they are only pals. Sorry her fate fell short of expectations.
It was a good composition beside the subject matter.

Thank you. If I had to, I would have died to spare Sandy all her pain. I don't truly think she was unhappy with her way of life. She had some very interesting expeiences.

It is loving tale no matter what happened at the ending. You loved her, she loved you, but life is never static, time passes, and life happens. You have good past memories of a finer time when all was possible. You write well, and hope to see more.

That is so sweet. But there is no end of time. This current existence in this body will end, we are made of star stuff and we will always continue. Karen

Great story. The intro and exposition work well, and the conclusion tops off the theme. For a non-fiction piece it is well paced. There's just one spot I'd change...

Compromise is a dirty word--I have heard this many times .is it really tough? Some effort to see the other person from his point of view and an effort to like what fate has landed you with ,I believe, would be helpful. Dream princes do not exist, anywhere in the world.

Thank you. I agree. To make a relationship work one must give as well as take. My first marriage didn't work because the man I married had to have things his way or I could take the highway. I took the highway.

Quite a touching story in many ways. Friends for an entire lifetime is a very rare occurrence. I'm glad that you were able to experience that. Life struggles catch all of us in different phases of our time span. You two seem to have survived in a way many others wish they could. Thanks for sharing.

Woah, Mystery Writer,
Sandy's story is gut-wrenching. But I surely love the fact that both of you have remained friends throughout your lives.
We just never know what life will hold for us.
You mention a few towns in Michigan = where I live as well... just as an aside.
What strikes me is that Sandy reminds me of my college roommate. We grew up in Saginaw, Michigan and attended Alma College. Roommates all four years. She's been married 3 times, the last I heard. No... I don't believe she was ever looking for a "prince," as she surely married three wonderful men. Her problem = narcissistic selfishness... Never happy...

Your offering is very well-written... Flows well...
Thank you for sharing!

Thank you. You're not so very far from me if you live around Saginaw. Shelby is about fifty miles west of Grand Rapids, and thirty miles north of Muskegon. It is a small town know for raising cherries and asparagus. It's nice to meet another Michigander.

    Hello!
Yes! I'm familiar with Shelby having been to Pentwater a number of times!
I've lived in Traverse City for 44 years and counting, having moved here when I married my husband.
Speaking of cherries, we live on the Old Mission Peninsula, and I just finished munching on a cup filled with some of the most delicious cherries I've ever eaten!
    Best Wishes in the contest!
