You certainly write a story with flair and fun. I really enjoyed it. I would ask him which one does he want to do? Vacuum every day, or mow once a week? You might also try the local churches, they usually know who could use extra money. Food for thought, Good writing. Karen

I hope things are working out with your Harvey. I'm a couple of years older than him and find myself struggling at times to be motivated. I feel his pain. But I also find having a routine keeps me motivated and moving. I'm not judging your husband as I'm also a master procrastinator, needing an occasional "nudging" from my wife. I appreciate your patience and hope he will find a way around his wall. Thanks for sharing this and stay well.

Oh gosh this is awful.
We are both 75 years old and all though in excellent health and very fit we would never push a lawn mower.
Being depressed must be the problem... Have you gone on walks with your husband... Just moving around might help.
As far as the lawn goes you need to find someone that you pay to come every two weeks... What about your neighbours guy?
I wish you the best of luck...

Thank you Lisaview. We have discovered a place near us that is perfect for walking. If the humidity is not to high, we go walking there. As the weather turns more fall-like, we will go there everyday.
The average age of my neighbors is 75. Thank you for your review and kind thoughts.

This was quite an interesting story that proves 'when you want something done right, get a woman.' Mowing a lawn is hard work. I tried it once. My body ached for the rest of the week. My husband took on the task, but we live in Florida with 90 degree temperatures. He couldn't keep it up. We pay a monthly fee to have a guy do it for us.

I enjoyed reading your well written story, and appreciate the large font. My older eyes could read easily.

Oh my good gravy Marie, you've had me in stitches since line one! I'm particularly partial to:

"I am now mowing the lawn, pushing that beast around the yard. (The lawnmower, not Harvey.)"

LOL. It IS a jungle out there! Not referring to your lawn but to the many scams that researching a service can be relied upon to separate us from our money.

I don't feel half as bad about no longer having a house of my own. This Landscaping Service was fifteen workers paid by the landlords of our 70-unit apartment complex.

(On occasion I even open my door and offer them an icy bottle of water!)

Oh my.

It's tough growing old(er)...

I'm 69 going on "holy cow it's all over."

It's freaking me out!

Great writing!

I feel worried for you. Instead of you working on everything yourself and having to be the one to take care of your home and property while your husband just lays there, just leave him. Any man that would disrespect you like that, causing you to be embarrassed in front of neighbors, for one thing, is most likely doing other things to disrespect you as well. You're an excellent writer and a strong women. You don't need to make excuses for him 75 isn't the end. My Dad lived to 100 and mowed his lawn until he was 90. You are better than this. I mean it. Be well and best wishes!

Thank you for your review and interest.
Harvey is far from lazy. He is going through what I see as fear of losing me. He has Asperger's . A very mild autism which means he social awkward. I make most of the decisions because it can be agonizing waiting for him to decide. I have done all the driving for years. At the moment I can not talk to him about the future.

Well that is good news-
A physical found no issues for a 75-year-old guy...

It makes sense about the change of moods after the passing of his sister.

Given time, maybe he'll come around. Just watch out for those unscrupulous business jerks who try to take advantage... oh by the way, I'm 68 and right behind you.

Cheers,
John

It sounds like you've picked up some extra duties since hubby is having a hard time. Hopefully, he will feel better soon and get back to sharing the load. In the meantime, sending you good vibes.
This is well written. You had me interested from the beginning, hoping that you would find a way to get him to going. Sometimes, people just need time. I hope that is all he needs and that you survive until he does.

My best friend's husband fell into a depression. No amount if coaxing could get him to do a single thing around the house. Caused a lot of tension. He finally got a job working about fifteen hours a week. Made a huge difference. And probably saved his life. Lol. Gretchen

Thank you Gretchen for your review. I am getting him out of the house with long walks around a pond with swans, geese, and deer. This and talking to his brother on the phone seems to help.
    Thank you,
