Enjoyed your story, Rachelle! As this was a blind contest, I didn't know about your post but I am now surprised to learn that your husband is Catholic. I'm glad you didn't mind when I pray in Jesus Name and of course, you're right that "grandstanding in prayer" is something that Jesus taught against. And He would have loved your poem. He's absolutely Jewish!

When I was married before, it was not only to a Jew, but to a Sabra. I was much smarter this time around. xo

I know you mentioned it because you lived in Israel for a while. Boy, that must have been a culture shock. Glad you met your husband! You wrote about him before and he sounds wonderful!

No, no; I never lived in Israel. I visited Israel and loved it, but we didn't live there.

Ah, Rachelle!
What an exceptionally well-crafted narrative! I loved every morsel - from your choosing to attend Mass with your husband, respecting the traditions of the Catholic Mass, and of course, your blessing at dinner!
I smiled throughout!
I was raised Catholic, yet my mother converted to Catholicism when she married my father, and as a result, I have always felt I was Catholic with a small case "c," for it was she who taught me the beauty of all religions - a lesson I treasure to this day...
And Jesus?
From what I know of Him, I do believe He would have raised His glass and indeed, exclaimed, "'She got you on that one, Lenny!'"
Kudos!

Ohhh! I LOVE this review! Thank you times a million zillion for saying everything I was genuinely needing to hear. I'm so appreciative of your complete understanding of my piece...as well, of course, as the validation about my "blessing" and Jesus's view of it. This means the world. Again, thank you, Diane. xoxo

Your name isn't visible, but I'd like to address a few things in your expose. No one can earn Jesus in the Eucharistic host -- He is a gift. No one would have enough to be worthy of Him, because He is the one who has given everything. The host, also, is not a symbol but the actual Body of Christ after the priest has uttered his last words at the consecration. Many Catholics are confused about this. I just thought you might like to know.

    Thank you.
When I say "earn" the ability to partake in Communion I use it in terms of 'having gone through the necessary education first.' You "earn" your college degrees after education; you "earn" the right to take Communion after having completed the education beforehand. That's what makes a child's First Communion such a very important day. They've done the necessary work to understand what it's all about.

And I do know that the host "IS" the body and blood of Christ, and that's why I said partaking of it would not be in keeping with my own religious tenets. Even the symbol would not be.

Very well! It hadn't been a criticism but an education, but you didn't need it.

Nope; I'm married to a Catholic, and I pay attention and am respectful.

Great piece :)

It was well written, succinct and entertaining. You have a strong voice and natural cadence when you tell your story.

Good dialogue. Smooth. Believable.

I went to Jerusalem in March :)

First, thank you for the nice review and the sixth star. (I feel guilty that you've bestowed so many this week. Thank you for your generosity. xo

Second, Jerusalem is indescribable, isn't it? It made my heart race. What took you there? Work? Bucket List? What did you think of it? Was it in reality what you'd imagined before you went there?

Hi!! Yes I loved it. I went for my faith. It was a pilgrimage in a way. Feel free to email me any time! I some times take a while here :)

Exactly, Jesus is/was inclusive, but also perfect in every way, as God come to earth to pay for the sins of the world was both perfect in obedience to the law, but perfect in grace and love, as we aren't, nobody but Him kept the law perfectly, that's why communion is the joining with Christ in His body a blood...but by faith, faith is the key, of believing that Christ is the perfect sacrifice for sin, if we break ine law, we are guilty of all. Beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

That's a good one. I am going to have some tough competition in this contest. The humor here is excellent. If Jesus was there, He'd be chuckling.

You know, mystery writer, I think you hit at the heart of Christianity more precisely than most diehard Christians. Well done on your story and your deeper story.

On another note, when I was in kindergarten, I found myself discussing religion with a group of my peers, one of which was a Jewish girl.

The kids were asking the difference between Christians and Jews (kindergarten, remember). The other kids were saying Jews don't believe in Jesus. I responded with, but Jesus was Jewish and He believed in Himself. Later on, I would think that believing in one's self was a good idea for any leader, lol.

I love your ability to think outside the box, and your prayer was priceless.

Good luck in the contest,
Rhonda

Hard to say what our Lord Jesus would have done. However, there is one thing, it would be words of life and nothing more. Thanks for sharing. Blessings to you.
