Hi Annie,
Sometimes a lie can ruin a person's reputation for life. Lies grow in power the more we use them. Sad when our own tongues become our worst enemy. Poor Ty ... the whole town looked at him as a liar, someone who couldn't be trusted.
Good Luck in the Rhyming Poetry contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thanks so much for your review and input. I thought of my grandkids when I wrote this one. Think I may read it to them or at least give them a copy. May do some good.

What a powerful message your poem presents. A lie will always be a lie. It doesn't matter how many times it is repeated. And lies bred miscontent and often anger. And in this instance, it probably destroyed the friendship between Tye and Ben.

Your rhyming poem makes an important point on its theme -- that a lie, however minor it seems, can cause lasting harm to someone wrongfully blamed for some event, regardless of whoever or whatever DID cause it. Superb, and aptly illustrated (though a girl's bike). -- Mike

What a good pickup! I did not realize that it was a girl's bike when I chose the picture...lol. Thanks for pointing it out. And thanks for the great review.

    You are most welcome, Annie.

I noticed the bike frame because I have a younger sister and eventually raised three daughters. Rather than look for another picture, just change your poem's first line to "Benny broke sister's bike" (without the quotation marks).

The damage seems just a flat rear tire, certainly not worth the lie's harm.

Benny's mom's actions did the real harm by spreading the lie before determining what really happened and how. Thus, this post is more of a warning to adults than to fibbing kids who should know better.

Poor Tyson. Ben was a terrible friend to blame someone else. Even worse was that Ben's mom spread the lie to everyone she knew. Poor Tye didn't even get a chance to stand up for himself.
Excellent reminder not to gossip and to find out the truth.

Exactly. Guess we always believe our kids but they sometimes pull the wool over our eyes. Thanks for your kind review.

That's a sobering thought. There are many innocent victims of lies that spread. And yet, there are some who make lying a profession as in certain politicians we know. Good to see you back, Annie! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you. Have had a year of really bad pain which interferes with any kind of composing. Couldn't get it together. Had to refuse surgery and will be on medication for the rest of my life. At least now I can float along and compose a bit.

When we tell a lie that I can be spread so quickly. It's off and said that I can travel around the world before the truth gets to choose on. I think there may be some truth in that myself. I wish you the best of the contest. Patricia.

Children don't realize the harm that a lie can cause. This poem just came out of the blue. Guess that some of mine are born in my dreams. Thanks so much for your kind review.

What a creative and well-rhymed poem about a subject we don't usually read about it poetry - lies! When I was a very young teenager, I blamed my best friend's brother for something that I did. He ended up being spanked for it, and I felt so bad, but was then too embarrassed to speak the truth. The weird thing is, I always thought his parents knew I was fibbing, and they spanked him anyway. To this day, I regret it.

Thanks for sharing this moral lesson in rhymes.

Pam
