I think sometimes my poetry is too radical and REAL for this site. To answer your question, I was for sure Ms. Thang back in the day. I have matured and mellowed with age. Maybe??😀

I wasn't sophisticated enough to recognize that "only in privacy wrapped in silence," she may have thought about her choices. The term wasn't available in the 60s, but based on your description, my friend was Miss Thang.

I like your free verse - excellent picture presentation- interesting story line familiar- broken pieces of a once perfect child- product of circumstance and abuse- pretending she's proud to exist- perfect the way she is in the moment- time and place - in the worlds face - hiding the pain in public- crying with her inner child when alone. I married her when I was 21..our inner children played pretend together for a year..-doing our Thang- good job AP

It looks like this is written from the perspective of someone looking at the layers of an onion, and seeing the dimensions of someone, they don't really. There's always the appearance of someone, and then the real person themselves. Beautifully written entry in this contest, blessings Roy

Wasn't quite sure where this was going. 'That Thang' is a bit of slang indicating something special. Is that the direction you were going. Of course nowadays 'Thang' could be a pronoun saying something totally different. Good luck in the prompt.

I love your word choices too. "Poor choices, made in slowly hardening clumps of uncertainty" is perfection in describing her inner insecurities of thought.
