I'm afraid for E.J. now. I've never been addicted to alcohol, but from what I've heard, and read, it's going to be a real test for him to quit again cold turkey. I was wondering, depending on how small the bridge tables are, wouldn't Abby, sitting across from him, have smelled the booze on his breath? He apparently did nothing to try to mask it before the game.

Yes, he's in for a tough time. I'm sure Abby did smell it, but she's used to him functioning fairly normally, even when under the influence. Things are coming to a head soon for E.J.

He really is on a downward slide, the only way we drink to relieve our symptoms of stress is because of self doubt, but we serve it in excess, not the other way around, smoking is the same, in a sense, it is almost suicidal, and taken to extremes that's the way it, although I didn't understand at first, in hind sight, that's what it is, well done Jim, blessings Roy

That's a good way to look at it--slow suicide.

Thanks for the good review, Roy.

Good chapter starting to show E.J. hitting the bottle.

I think it would be beneficial to explain Abby's look -

"I wasn't sure you were going to make it," she said as she looked at me kind of funny.

Maybe a few details of how EJ looks. Just a thought.

Looking forward to the next chapter. John

He's a pro, he's got bottles everywhere. It is clear, you have him sliding down the rabbit hole. He will need an intervention and professional help, to kick the addiction. How much money is actually earning?

Good work.

He doesn't earn that much caddying, but he's amassed about $28 grand from his golf winnings for college.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I am curious if E.J. is going to get his drinking under control.

I went over and sat down in my chair and tried to put it out of my mind. & We sat down and greeted our east-west opponents. (You can omit 'down' in both sentences. It's understood so it's an extra word)

It's coming to a head soon, as he doesn't yet understand the potential it has for thwarting his future.

I can see my hopes waning as far as E J is concerned! He seems to be lapsing back into heavy drinking. I think you deal well with his drink problem and the slow decline.

Thank you, Sarah. He needs something to finally convince him he's on the wrong track.
