Either I missed a chapter or you failed to show the scene where Abby and Kenny resolved that major block to their relationship. I'll have to recheck my inbox for said chapter.

This chapter itself, was entertaining, and their relationship seems about to advance to the next stage.

Poor E.J. I'd never heard of the yips, but I can see why they'd occur after something traumatic had occurred in the past. Personally, I'd like to have seen E.J. struggle a little, mentally, before he took that first swig of bourbon. And/or show a little more remorse for what had happened while he was emptying the bottle. But that's just my take.

I seem to have given the impression that he has quit and gone back on the bottle, when this isn't the case. Hence no particular remorse. You're not the only one to think that. He has continued to drink all along; we just haven't seen him doing it for a while, as the focus has primarily been on Abby for a few chapters.

The chapter you may have missed was 37 where Abby and Kenny patch things up.

I'll have to catch that one.

Well, E.J. is an alcoholic, so it is natural that when things turn south, even a little, his first reaction would be to seek the comfort of the bottle.

Abby, going to school 70 miles away isn't bad, that lest than a 90-minute drive. Are you sure you don't want to make it longer, so it has more weight?

She's got to be close enough to come back for some bridge games. These will be important in the plot.

This is a very good write-up with detailed and Luke able characters.

I didn't find any grammatical errors. I'm curious to see what happens next.

Very good. Thank you for sharing!

Likeable. Sorry. Tennessee whiskey was flowing a little to liberally last evening.

As a former alcholic who hasn't drunk for forty years, I can tell you that the booze is the enemy of all who drink to excess. Of course you've got plans for EJ, but it looks like he'll have to overcome this major problem, by stopping entirely. It might ruin his bridge night too. beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy
Typo : Spend the (day) Saturdays.

Thanks, Roy. You'll find that this particular bridge game begins a sequence of events that will let us know if E.J. can make it or not in life. Good catch--should have been "spend the day on Saturdays."

Thank you for sharing this installment with us. I do enjoy the story. I am wondering about this bridge game.

It's going to be hard to wait a whole week to come see you again, (You can omit 'come'. Dialogue should flow smoothly as we speak. Most people don't speak grammatically correct, so dialogue isn't grammatically correct. Narrative should be.)

Thank you, Barbara. You're right to wonder about the bridge game. I'll let you in on a little secret: This game begins a sequence of events that determines whether or not E.J. will be able to succeed in his quest to improve himself.

In regards to the details of the upcoming game, if you haven't read previous chapters, I've already gone over a few bridge games between E.J. and Abby, so the reader should have some knowledge of how the game of duplicate bridge works. I try to keep it fairly general so the non-bridge players in the readership won't be overwhelmed and skip these parts.

I doubt the alcohol will help when he sees Abby for the bridge game. She'll easily smell it on him or spot his tendencies during the bridge game. Damned be Eddie for spiking his drink.

Well done. John
