Without taking anything at all against your writing, which is superb for this type of novel, I'm not a hundred percent sure of your methodology of having joint points of view. Right now, you are making E.J. out to be a saint, suppressing all feelings of budding love for Abby in favor of her happiness with Kenny. If the story were from Abby's point of view, however, the reader would always suspect his feelings for Abby and this would make for a more powerful dynamic ... in my opinion. (And, my God, I've been wrong so many times, even about my own stories and my direction with my characters!) I just thought you might value in the long run by having another's perspective be shown you.
I'm certainly anxious to see where you're taking this story.

I certainly do value getting your perspective on this novel, Jay.
From the time I conceived of this story, it was always going to be about a friendship rather than a romance between these two. E.J. has such low self-esteem (it's starting to grow now, though) that he never felt himself even worthy of being her friend at first, no less her boyfriend. Sure, he has some normal male feelings towards her, but once she became his friend, he doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize that friendship by making any moves on her. Also, he knows in his heart that it would not be reciprocated, and he wouldn't want the experience of being rejected. He recognizes right away that Kenny is much more the one for her, and he has always liked Kenny.
Honestly, I don't know how realistic this is or if it will end up being a big disappointment to those who want to see E.J. and Abby get together. But it was always the unlikely friendship angle that I envisioned for the story.

Hmm, I guess all this makes sense to cat, dog or just pet owners. To the rest of us, an animal is just an animal. I cannot really say much to the context of these last chapters, but I think the writing is spot on.

I think you're right about pet owners. Being a cat owner for many years, this was a very emotional chapter for me to write. I guess it's hard to relate if you haven't owned pets.

In many ways because of Abby, EJ was able to straighten him out, and it could have because of the loss of his mum, it was that which scuttled him, but now, he's sorting out Abby and Kenny's problems, EJ is bpneeded and that would feel good, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thanks, Roy. E.J.'s on his way up, but not quite there yet as we shall soon see.

Well done

You wrote as I expected you would with Abby needing time to grieve and get her thoughts together. And Kenny, wanting to get past this hurdle that stands between them,
Your story is so clean cut, I found this line a little out of place...
â?¢ I was such a heartless (bitch)
Something to consider.
Excellent .... John

Thanks, John. I debated using that line, but at least she reserved it for herself and not about someone else. I thought it would show the depth of her regret.

Absolutely!

Once again this is a good read. You're doing a good job writing this story. Keep up the good work.
At 7:30 the next morning, I called E.J. (the 'following' morning, as per one of my editors. She said it had to deal the definition of the words.)
we headed up to The Overlook and sat down on the bench. & We headed over to The Overlook and sat down together. (You can omit 'down'. It's an extra word and not needed.)
