This is my first time reading and I'm already super interested. I really like the amount of dialogue because it keeps the story interesting and moves it along quickly. Good job!

I remember playing set hand bridge, with the same partner, and finished nowhere, but still had a good time, our social, Saturday night game we'd deal fresh hands all the time, but I never took it seriously, but the bidding was difficult, so many styles, i played cricket in the day. Beautifully written Jim, E.J's showing the affects of the booze wearing off, it will be good if he makes, he could go either way with his behaviour, well done, blessings Roy

Most welcome

A very good chapter, and I reminder that the characters are real people with human flaws, who make mistakes. And yes, I can understand the temporary withdrawal symptoms E.J. had. He is shown drinking every day at home.
Good work.

Thanks so much.
I hope you'll let me know if you think the bridge and golf scenes throughout the story are too long and/or detailed. I've shortened them considerably from preceding drafts, but they play a significant role in the story and need to be there to some extent. Just let me know if it's still too much. I really respect your opinions.

Not long. I think the bridge scenes shows E.J. growing, and learning social skills. He was primarily a loner. Now, he is slowing expanding his world. He now sees the need for a car, independence, and making plans to 'save' money to achieve a goal.
Good character development.

EJ is certainly intelligent in being able to pick up bridge so quickly. Maybe it goes with ability in Maths? I do think you need to guard against too much detail on Bridge. Looking forward to romantic developments!

They will be coming, but not between E.J. and Abby.
There will be a few more short bridge scenes, but I hope what transpires during them and the effect they will have on the characters will maintain the reader's interest.
